I know it's an age old question, but I just wanted to know if any of you guys had any input.

I'm thinking about taking a W hit in my Organic Chem class so I can retake it again for a higher grade. At this current moment, it looks like I might be getting a B at best... probably B- or if all goes sour then C+.

I know GPA is fairly important in med school applications (but not to which extent as some say some med schools don't even look at applications if the GPA/MCAT scores don't match their formulas, etc). So I was wondering if you guys think it's worth taking the W right now and retaking Organic Chem over again for a better grade.
I mean really, it's to save my GPA rather than worrying about a B on the transcript. It's my second semester in college so I don't really have many grades for an accurate GPA (I have three B's from my only semester, so am hoping to raise my GPA significantly).

Please let me know what you guys think! To stay or to withdraw...

if you W your class now and don't get an A the 2nd time around then you wasted time and money. a W is not bad at all if a good reason is behind it (such as changing majors mid semester). W'ing a class for an A when you have a B does not seem worth it because you could do worse or the same next time. i would consider working hard to maintain the B this semester and get an A in orgo2 next semester. if you really need/want that A in orgo1 then retake the class at a later date.

I agree with the above poster that this seems like a bit of a waste. I pulled a B in Organic I and was so pissed with myself I redoubled my efforts, pulled an A in organic II and my prof even offered to write one of my LoRs. I'd say stick it out. 🙂

OChem is a traditional weed-'em-out class for premeds; it isn't going to get easier. Stick it out and put everything you have into getting the highest B you can. It isn't worth going through the same pain twice. You have the rest of college to get your BCPM GPA up.

I agree 100% with Catalystic, just stick it out, alot of premed students would love to be in your position and get a B in orgo I.
