I never understood the definition of behavioral science. Can someone clarify for me what's considered behavioral science classes? I've heard it's just upper division psychology classes and then I also hear it's my degree emphasis which is basically neuroanatomy and some courses I've taken in my undergrad.

a pre-emptive "Thanx"

ps. I just want to say that I read the "DO girls are hot" thread. That's some good quality stuff. 👍

It is merely a classification of courses that can be from upper/lower division classes. Look at the pre-osteo FAQ post #2 and you will see a list of classifications to see what I mean. You will see what classes fall under math, english, other science, behav science, etc.

just one thing i'd like to add...if there is a specific med school you are looking at, make sure that the school doesn't have specific behavioral science requirements. For example, most schools just want any 2 behavioral science courses that fall within those categories from above. However, University of Illinois required 3 behavioral science courses in ONLY psychology, sociology, or anthropology. And two of those courses had to be within the same discipline (ie. 2 psych and 1 anthro or 2 anthro and 1 socio). Good luck! 🙂

Where's that? I'm a newbie...hahaha...can you tell?

EDIT: NM! HAHAH I got it.

this means if i've taken one course in behavioral sciences i should not apply to the schools with the 6 semester hour requirement? (my course was 4 semester hours)

You don't have to have it in order to apply but you need to have it by the time you matriculate.

so, i currently have 4 hours of behavioral science, and i can submit the AACOMAS and go to interviews AND be accepted, but by the time i matriculate i need 6 hours. is this correct? having 4 hours will not keep me from getting accepted?

yes, 4 hours will not keep you from getting accepted, just make sure you have 6 at least six after you're all said and done with undergrad or grad or whatever you're doing.

I'm sorry, I'm really not stupid, but I just freaked out a little when I noticed I had below requirement level of behavioral sciences. So...

I found a course that I will take from July-August to get an additional 3 hours (I already have 4). The AACOMAS asks you to list the courses you plan to take and I did. But obviously they will not receive my grade/transcript from this school until the class is over. Will they still process my application when I submit at some point in June?

Thanks for all your help.

as long as you listed the summer course as a future course, AACOMAS will not interfere with the process of your application. You can still submit in June and it will be 100% complete. When you do have your new grade for that course just simply send an updated transcript to AACOMAS and they automatically update yout profile and send the updated profile to the schools you selected. good luck!

yes, they will process your application with whatever grades they get from your transcript(s), they will make an e-profile which is basically a breakdown of your grades in each category such as science g.p.a, overall, non-science, biology, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, behavioral sciences, freshman, sophmore, junior, senior g.p.a's etc. when you submit the summer grades later they will update your application, after they get your summer grades they will modify this e-profile based on those grades and the category or categories they fit in and resend to the schools you have chosen.

thanks for all your help. i don't know what i would do without SDN. 😍

Quick question, so I can basically take Psychobiology (under the Psychology department) and not take the traditional "Intro to Psychology" if I don't want to/can't fit into my schedule, correct?
Oh yeah, does anyone know if comparative politics or "global studies" would count under the "behavioral science requirement"?

Thanks!
