Basically, I registered for Physics II at my school over the summer as a "safety". I did not pay for it though. Due to cost, I took it at another 4 year university for a LOT less, but it's accredited so no worries there. However, I emailed my advisor to drop me from the Physics II at my school...he is on vacation, not back until AFTER the drop date! So I might have a W from my school...but at the same time, I obviously will have a grade for Physics II from the other school! Would this look stupid bad? 😕

Naaaah. As long as you don't get a WF... or something that factors into your GPA.

Also.. NEVER rely on anyone to anything for you. Do it yourself. Physically drive there. Get it done.

??

why would you need to talk to the professor to drop a class

just go to your schools office where the advisers etc are and talk to them.

at my school you can drop online from any computer...

That's my point, I'm really confused. I didn't pay for the course so I should have been auto-dropped...but I'm apparently still registered. I emailed the advisor again to make sure that there is no W or any record and hopefully since I didn't pay it will work out...but I'm still scared of seeing the W.

I mean if I was asked to explain any W I would simply say what I said, I registered as a precaution and took it somewhere else, but the advisor was on vacation and wasn't able to remove it in time, and I have the grade...my mind still doesn't want any blemish of a W.

Only advisors can drop/add classes. Mine was away and isn't back until Monday, when the last day to drop was Friday. I'm hoping that since I didn't pay for the course it will work out as nothing on my transcript.

The date has already passed!

Well in that case, you could still do yourself a favor by talking to the registrar. At least then you'll fully understand the situation. Right now you still don't know what exactly happened if you're saying you should have been auto-dropped when you didn't pay. At my school, you could not be dropped from a class as long as when you registered you didn't have an outstanding balance. They would just tack it onto your semester bill and charge you late penalties if it wasn't paid by the end of the drop date.

Yeah, I'm gonna call the office in the AM and make sure. I mean, worst comes to worst I'll take the W and explain it because I think it's quite clear that if I have a W for a course in one school at the same time I have a grade for that course, in the same session for another school, it'll be clear what happened. :xf::xf: for no repercussions though.

Yeah, having a grade in the same course at the same time should make your alibi pretty convincing. I feel like little things like that hardly ever make the difference.

The only reason I'm freaking out is because it's a MAJOR pre-req, like Orgo II. If it was something like Intro to Astronomy I'd be like  no big deal even if W.

I went through something similar. I registered for a class but decided to take it the next semester. I withdrew from the class four months before the class was due to start. It still shows up as a W on my transcript. I still need to talk to my university about this since I withdrew from the class months before the start date (I was pretty much just rearranging my schedule), and I never forked over tuition. A simple call/walking over to the office should clear things up in my and your case. :luck:

Hey, I would see if you could get the W removed, but if not, don't stress. When I dropped out of Northwestern for U San Diego, due to administrative errors, I ended up with a few W's on my transcript for some science classes. If you aced your summer physics class, it is really no big deal. In my case, I was never asked at any of my interviews to explain the W's. In fact, most applications have a small section dedicated to the explanation of W's or any academic transcript issues. If you explain your case, surely they will understand. Good luck! 🙂

Removed, no W, saved solely to the fact that I didn't pay. Phew!
