If, as university endowments typically do, this yields 4.5% of principle to spend each year, it fill a good portion of the hole created by the NIH's cut to their MSTP grant. Hopefully, other MD-PhD programs facing similar cuts can find benefactors like this.

I don't know what relationships all University Relations offices have built with benefactors, but I would not be surprised if benefactors such as foundations or non-profit corporations step up. The question is whether for-profit companies will, IMO. I do trust the endowment managers to do their magic.
