I'm planning to apply to dental schools this coming May,
but I don't know if I have a good chance of getting into UOP
with my stats.

overall GPA: 3.26
sci GPA: 3.07
AA: 21
TS: 22
PA: 18
RC:16
QR:24
80 hrs of internship at dental offices
2 yrs of work experiences in a lab

What do you guys think? If you think my stats are not good enough
for UOP, what other schools do you think I should consider?

Also, I was going to take another English class in the winter quarter
(I already took one English class and got an A-) to cover my low
RC score. But some of my friends were telling me that if I take a science
class and get a decent grade, I can raise my sci GPA a bit. I don't know
if I should take english class or science class. Do you guys have any
advice for me? 🙂

retake your dat. I think they want a 19 or higher in PAT and 20 or higher in RC. you can do it. good luck.

Agreed. UOP is a good choice with your grades on the weak side. They really weigh the DAT heavily, but you'll have to really excel on the test to win their confidence. Study your tail off, retake it, and let us know what happens. Good luck!

UOP is super DAT heavy, and like high scores across the board. Their average RC is 21, so your score may stick out a bit. It seems like they could care less about GPA. Just check out my and dakine's stats. We're the ones that keep those 3.8 guys from pulling up the average. It really depends on how set you are on going to UOP. Your DAT scores are really good and should be fine for most schools. You can always call UOP and just ask them how competitive they think your scores are.

There are a lot of other great schools out there. If I were you, I wouldn't take it again, but instead do more research on other dental schools I felt would be a good fit for me.

looks like you're a cali resident.

it's a no brainer, apply to all the cali state schools. don't take your chances, play the odds...

also consider out of state schools that allow you to become a resident after 1 year.

if you have rich parents who are paying for all schooling, apply to some expensive schools that are easier to get into, like USC and NYU.

How do you all think a 22 TS, 21 AA, 17 PA will look to UPac? I have a 3.35 overall, 3.2 science but I am out of state. I'm worried that the 17 might be a little low for their standards and wanted to see whether or not it's worth it to apply.

Being out of state shouldn't matter to UOP. Give them a call and tell them your DAT scores. They'll tell you if the 17 will be ok.

its always worth it to try, what do you have to lose? a few bucks for the applicaion fee. apply to as many places that you can afford.

Agreed! Don't let fear rule your life. No regrets if you try.

Don't bother retaking English. That would be foolish, an A- to an A will not be worth the trouble! Take some science and get that up.

I hear UOP relies heavily on PAT scores. You can always try your luck. Louisville and Maryland are great schools that may be worth taking a look at.

Hi mychoi,

I agree w/ others that you'll need to bring up your RC if you want to go to UOP. The health science advisor told me Loma Linda and UOP tend to accept applicants w/ lower gpa's. Your gpa is competitive for those schools.

I think your gpa is a little low for UCSF and UCLA. I think UCSF's avg last year was a 3.45 or there abouts. But your DAT scores look excellent. Have you opened up a PHPAC file at South Hall? (I'm assuming you go to UCD.) When you go for your interview, you can ask your interviewer if your stats look competitive and they can advise you which schools you have the best shot at.

Good luck, pm me if you have any questions.

All i know from UOP is that you need a strong RC score due to the fact that got that 3 yrs program so they think that better scores in RC means that you can take more info faster. it sounds like bull shxxt but that is what someone from admin told me a while back.
