Did anyone get an acceptance letter from WVCOM, I got mine in the mail today. 😀

congratulations! i have an interview with them oct 2... any pointers?

when did you interview???

I'm gonna ignore your arrogance and just ask, "How?"

WVSOM offers seats to those who have greater than 3.5 GPA and 28+ MCAT.
No interviews needed.

**** why couldn't I have just taken alg-based physics and have taken calc @ a CC.

Son of a...

instead 32 MCAT/3.24 GPA... you think I will get an interview there?

I think you will get one. I have the same GPA, but much lower MCAT and I got an interview.

For all of you disperate applicants that want to go to WVSOM, I have 3.77 GPA and a 3.83 Science GPA. AN outstanding MCAT score of 28N. WVSOM wants me. In fact, all the D.O schools want me however, I really want to go to an M.D school. 😀

Hey Medicineman, I'm in the same boat as you. My only qualm against WVSOM is the high tuition. Are you going to pay the deposit? Can it be done in payments?

I'm going to procrastinate the payment as long as I can until I get another acceptance.

vanip is right, MedMan. If the adcoms get a whiff of your attitude, it could cost you an acceptance. Regardless, your GPA and MCAT score are nothing to boast about.

Good Luck to you, MedMan. I hope you get in this year.

What pisses me off is that he didn't have to interview. this is a turnoff, because it means that WVSOM is shamelessly trying to pull up their matriculant GPA/MCAT stats without regard to the personal skills of their graduates. This arrogant POS is going to get in there no matter how he would have interviewed, and he is showing a tremendous amount of disregard to others in this forum who work their asses off and don't have as high of stats and would kill to have his acceptance offer. What a pompous ass.

By the way, 28N is not that great. Kiss my 32Q ass.

Just to make some people feel better, i have an interview there next month with a 3.18 sci 3.1 overall and 22P MCAT, My only though is that is POS people like the OP getting in allows them to accept people like me and still maintain descent averages, then whatever makes them happy! Shallow yes but hey, it gives me a chance to be a doc.

I'm like you medmom...3.2 GPA with 21N MCAT. I hope we both get in!

While the idea of just accepting people because of their stats seems like a poor option it really isn't much different from what a lot of schools do already.... only WVSOM is saving someone the cost of having to fly out to interview. I also believe the school is trying to work on some sort of alternative to the lack of interview.

For those that are interviewing at WVSOM, where are you flying into if you are flying? Has anyone found a cheap flight into somewhere besides lewisburg? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

my husband and I are flying into Roanoke, va. It was actually the only place we could fly into from our home town. There were no flight plans into Lewisburg. So, we are flying into Roanoke and renting a car. It is about 1.5 hours to Lewisburg. It was better than driving 4 hours to the closest major airport to out house. Also, We could only get a flight OUT of Lewisburg at 2:00pm and that just wasn't going to work.

I got an acceptance letter from WVSOM too...but they want a $3000 non-refundable deposit before Sept 29. I've heard it's a great school with friendly people...I would like to go there, but with a cost of 70 K+ a year I don't feel like I can just commit (especially without having an interview to see the school or without seeing other schools).

Any thoughts? Is it even worth asking for an extended deadline?

Thanks for the input.

wait till it gets closer till you have to hand in the deposit..see if any other acceptances turn up that may/may not change your mind. if it comes down to crunch time...put in the deposit. worst-case scenario, you may get into another school that you like (maybe even like more than wvsom) and you will just lose the 3grand...in the long run that money doesn't compare to being happy or having a much lower cost of living (if you choose a school with a lower tuition). you'll make up for it for it when you become the doctor! congratulations though on wvsom..you are guaranteed to go to med school next year! 🙂

Maybe this is a dumb question but why not do a phone interview if they're trying to save the students some travel expense? It seems better than just blindly admitting someone. Lots o' companies do phone screenings; it's a reasonable way to filter people out, though an in-person interview still seems like a necessity. What if the candidate arrives the first day of classes and obviously hasn't bathed in 10 years?

By the way, unless you just wanna live in luxury and eat out everyday, you won't come too close to spending all the 70K. Unless I go hogwild spending, I'll probably only use the low 60K for this year mainly cause I brought a new car. Without the car, I would definately be in the low to mid 50K for first year.
