Hello,

Has anyone interviewed at WVSOM? And if so, what questions should one expect? I did a search but couldn't find specific questions they were asked at the interview.

I was in the same boat as you about a month ago so I will chime in.

Before I interviewed I heard from EVERYBODY that the interview itself was very laid back and relaxed. Well, it was exactly that. You will be at the head of a long table and will be interviewed by two professors and someone from the admissions staff. They didn't ask me any pressing questions at all, they just asked me things from my primary application so make sure you know it well! Couple things they will ask you for sure:
- Why WVSOM?
- Can you handle living in a rural area? Do you plan to practice in a rural area?
- Why DO?

I can tell you for sure they will ask you these questions. Otherwise, the interview was very relaxed, we talked about triathlons for a portion of the time so no need to worry!

I second the above and would just add that the interviewers were very familiar with my background and experiences. You can expect to get questions tailored to your file. For example, my background is in public health with a focus on adolescent health so I was asked: 1) how I see public health fitting into my career as a physician 2) how I think OMT could be applied to adolescent patients. Other than that the questions were standard: how do you deal with stress/what do you do for fun? Have you ever had the chance to see OMT performed? (I had not). As everyone says - it's incredibly laid back and they really just want to put a face with a file/ get to know you better. The school seems to put an emphasis on not playing good cop/ bad cop or arguing with you over answers in the interview. The admissions staff, students and president (who stepped out of a meeting to speak with us) are exceptionally hospitable.

They said it would be 2 weeks but my online portal was updated within 2 days and I got the letter within 5 days. Congrats on your interview and good luck!

How do people answer the 'Why DO' question? Some people apply both MD/DO and want to be a physician above all...

I currently work in an emergency department and half of our physicians in the ED are DOs and half are MDs. I think the DOs I work with are much more personable yet are equally as skilled as the MDs. The DOs come out and talk to us nurses and technicians when we are slow, while the MDs always just sit back in the physician area and do not interact with us. So I just gave that as a personal example during my interview, along with many other reasons, you just have to find yours!

Hey I interviewed here 2 weeks ago. VERY laid back interview, more of a conversation. To answer why D.O., I emphasized interest in preventative medicine and treating a patient as a "whole" not just physically but mentally, emotionally and spiritually. I also talked about my interest in OMM, and how it can be used to diagnose and treat patients just by manipulating the muscles and bones of the body. You can also talk about your shadowing/work experiences.

A little more than a week but I've heard they usually do it quicker than that.

Just curious since you interviewed there, what are SAE interviews? I got an offer to interview there and was confused by sae interviews.

Since this thread is not only over a year old and in the wrong place, I would imagine you won't get a response. Especially since almost of the people who posted in this thread haven't been on the site for more than six months.
