Hello All,

Thank you for tuning in to this thread. I am currently deciding between (within next two weeks) between WVSOM and VCOM-VA. I have been to both campuses in person and like what I see. However, medical school is about the academics and the opportunities it can provide. In need of serious help deciding. Still deciding for HPSP but let us assume it is a non-factor. I have old friends that go to both schools and they both state no regrets, although this most likely is aided by their own biases. I am focusing on research opportunities, cost, and boards. I am supremely confident in my ability to make the most of wherever I go, although still cognizant of averages/medians not to sound full of myself but that is how I got here in the first place: delusional self-confidence with occasional heaping amounts of humility. Truly the dichotomy of man is astounding.

VCOM: tuition roughly 51K (unchanged from 2023 based on brochure although total cost was around 80K if factoring living cost)
WVSOM: tuition roughly 56K (definitely cheaper living costs than blacksburg maybe by 10-20% although I may be off)

Biggest difference I can see after speaking with students, touring, and prior research is state funding availability/CONCRETE student priority. I like both schools but am currently leaning towards WVSOM.

I guess what I am asking is more about research and clinicals. Both friends at WVSOM did part of 3rd year rotations back where I am from (N. VA). Throwing that out there because I saw some posts stating they only have rural WV rotations which I am fine with but options are always welcome when training. Thank you for getting to this point.

I'm not going to vote because I know nothing about WVSOM but I'm just here to comment that VCOM has an excellent reputation. I'm at an MD school and some of our attendings went there
