Yes, only in females. Remember that each cell in the body randomly chooses which x to inactivate (although according to current research that may not be the case) therefore not all the cells in your body will have the same genetic makeup.
 
99 % of the time its a female, but there is that 1% thats male. A good example of x- inactivation is the calico cats with the black and orange coloring.

Yes they explained it, but they never really mentioned that it was females only.

BTW, I'm starting to get intimidated by all the info in cliff's. Is all of this detail really necessary? I mean they don;t even touch on the basic stuff like cell theory and what have you (granted I haven't finished reading the book yet).

Actually they did.

"in female mammals" right out of the book.

Ya I agree, I skipped some Cliffs, it was just too much. Wait till you get to the Kingdoms.

Oh, I thought theyw ere simply using the "in female mammals" as an example. I was more or less looking for something that read, "X-inactivation occurs in females only" 😀

Dude, I'm doing DNA replication now and its got me so confused. I've essentially spent ALL of today simply reading Cell division and heredity and I just started on molecular genetics.

My brain.....it hurts. There is no way the DAT expects us to know this much information.
And I'm not entirely certain I like the way cliff's is written. Sure it may be less boring than Schaum's but I also have the princeton review science books and I was reading through the DNA replication section and it seemed so much easier to read but that might have been due to the fact that I just got done reading it in Cliff's for like 2 hours. 😀 Plus the PR science book's biology sect is 344 pages long and I plan on taking my DAT in less than 3 weeks.....AHHHHHHHHH!
