This is from TMDSAS published data. It does not support a significant bias against reapplicants.
Data Reports
For 2024
6,472 applicants
4,510 received interviews
2,595 were accepted
2,230 matriculated – some went out of state, some changed their minds
2595/6472 = 40% acceptance rate – this number is misleadingly deflated
1,366 were reapplicants
1,005 interviewed
504 accepted
456 matriculated
504/1366 = 37% acceptance rate for reapplicants
In other words, the acceptance rate for first-time applicants is 2595-504/6472-1366 = 41%
The overall percentage success rate is 63% over two attempts, assuming the events are independent. They’re not, so the true percentage success rate of a reapplicant is between 37% and 63%. If there is a failure on the first attempt, do something to make the second attempt different, make it an independent event. Get a higher MCAT score, get more healthcare hours, get admitted to a special master’s program obtaining a master of medical science or similar degree. Graduates of such programs have an 80% acceptance rate.
Anecdotally, I received no TMDSAS interviews last cycle. I've already had one this cycle with the same grades and MCAT.
