Anyone know anything about this school? I looked at the website but there is not much info about pre-reqs, etc. What classes do they require? Thanks! 🙂

I did go to their website...I'm looking for the courses required. Sorry, I might be blind lol but I don't see specific courses. I thought some ppl might know here. But here is all I see from the website about the courses:

College of Pharmacy Admissions Information

The two-year pre-pharmacy curriculum offered in the Chemistry Department of the College of Arts and Sciences prepares students for success in pharmacy school. Students wishing to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree through Xavier's College of Pharmacy must complete 66 credit hours of the Chemistry/pre-pharmacy curriculum prior to being admitted to the Pharm. D. program. For more information see the Department of Chemistry section in the University catalog for details of this curriculum.

Applicants, including Xavier pre-pharmacy students, who have completed or who are about to complete pre-pharmacy requirements should submit: (1) an on-line application for admission, (2) three letters of recommendation, (3) a statement of interest, (4) a transcript from each college (two- and four-year) previously attended, and (5) Pre-Pharmacy Requirements Form/Checklist.

In order to be considered for admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy program, students must have an overall GPA of 2.5 and grades of "C" (2.00/4.00) or better in required pre-pharmacy science and math courses. In addition, any required pre-pharmacy courses that cannot be substituted with courses from the student's transcript must be completed. Only grades of "C" (2.00/4.00) or better in acceptable courses will transfer to Xavier University of Louisiana.

General ethics courses will not be considered in fulfillment of the health ethics requirement at Xavier University of Louisiana. In order to be considered for transfer credit for PHIL 2400 Health Ethics, a course must be comparable to bioethics, medical ethics or health ethics. To transfer a required theology/religion course, the course must have been offered through a theology/religion department. The courses shall be subject to review by the Departments of Philosophy and Theology at Xavier University.

Just a few questions about these prereqs, since Xavier is one of my top pics to apply to....I'm assuming if you've taken Calculus, that you wouldn't have to have Precalculus correct? I never took precal. What's the deal with this theology course? And my university doesn't offer any bioethics courses. What should I do?

If your school doesn't offer bioethics (usually in the philosophy department at schools), try a nearby school. You must have all courses completed by I'm thinking August of the year you want to enroll in the P1 class, but all requirements don't have to be completed by the time you apply. Also, I remember them saying that they don't take online courses.

You need Precalculus even though you've already taken Calculus. I know of a classmate who had to take Trig the summer before our P1 year. It's required.

That's just crazy man...What do you need trig for in pharmacy school? You'd think an A in calculus would be ok.
That's funny, because I got a B in Trig and an A in Calculus. My Trig professor had a horrible accent, like all of the math professors at my first university, but my Calculus professor is an exception because she's native.
Come to think of it, I'm glad I took Trig even though I got a B in it. I didn't realize it was a pre-req either until I sat down with my advisor at the COP who proceeded to check it off the list of pre-reqs.

Well if I get accepted guess that means I'll be taking it the summer before matriculation.

I hope you enjoy your summer 😉.

Oh trust me I will...because in July I will be taking a trip to Alaska for fun🙂😀😉 which is where I want to end up practicting pharmacy...but that is a discussion for another day.

No matter which school I get accepted to I will end up having to take microeconomics, statistics, or now it looks like trig in the summer. I don't know how I'd work the bioethics and religion course in there....This comigng summer I'll be taking A&P 1 and 2. And right now to graduate in May 09 I'm looking at taking 16-17 hours a semester. But I guess where there's a will there's a way. I wonder if they accept online courses.

I think someone should call them and ask and post the answer for all to see, and taking 17 hours in may???? oMG i dont know if the pharmacy schools would want to take a chance on someone having that MANY prereqs to complete before August??? WOW! I can see 1 or 2 classes but not 17 hours. !!!

Dude I'm graduating in May 09 with my biology degree....15-16 hours is a normal course load. We're talking about one additional hour. Sounds rather normal to me.

i'm glad i saw this thread. is anyone concerned with the living conditions in new orleans? i would like to attend, however, i'm a bit put off by the conditions there.

From what I've heard, they don't take online courses.

What conditions? (I say that as I sit in my apartment a few miles away from campus.)

I too live in New Orleans and there is no distinction between online courses and courses taken at the college. The transcript does not say classes were taken online they display just like the regular classes. I know first hand because I work at Xavier. I too will be going there for Pharmacy in 2009 and have already met with the counselor who advised me about this matter because I love to take classes online.

anyone else apply to xavier? I did but have heard nothing back yet..and they show that the transcripts from my schools havent been recieved yet...but they were mailed out back in late august...anyone else with the same problem?? this is wait so nerve-wrecking!! 😕
