The AAMC has been working closely with the medical school admissions and pre-health advisor communities to consider the impacts on applicants due to coronavirus (COVID-19). Medical schools are aware of the many challenges applicants are facing and understand the need to be flexible in their admissions approach.

At this time, we intend to open the AMCAS application as planned on May 4, and delay transmitting AMCAS applicant data to medical schools by two weeks. This transmission delay – moving from June 26 to July 10 – will give applicants additional time to complete their applications during this rapidly changing situation due to COVID-19. We do not expect this two-week delay to impact AMCAS operations, including application processing and verification.

I think the AAMC just undershot this for two weeks at minimum..?!
While it’s better than nothing and might give some time to some early June test takers.., but by leaving the AMCAS application to open on May 4 and submission on May 28, this might force the hands of some medical schools to move their calendars later, nonetheless it fails to equalize between all the disadvantaged applicants if they don’t address the forced late test takers..!!

What exactly does a transmission delay mean? Does that mean as long as we are verified before July 10th, then it does not matter when we submit our app? (e.g. as early as possible, June 1st is not the rule anymore?)

All applications verified before July 10th will be transmitted to the schools on July 10th.

What impact, if any, does this have on TMDSAS?

TMDSAS earliest transmission date is currently June 7. So if you are going to use both systems, finish up your TMDSAS app first.
