I just read a thread posted by a girl in high school wondering if she could enter dental school already without her high school diploma. Oh, and she wanted to be an orthodontist.

When I go to my dentist to let him extract a tooth, I totally don't care he didn't earn his high school diploma.

Sweet jesus we need to get people off of Yahoo answers and onto SDN!!!!!

lol I'd be down. We could really use yahoo answers type questions on here. 🙄

It may be possible though.

Drop out of high school ---> GED at community college ---> transfer to a 4-year university ----> dental school ----> ortho residency

:eyebrow::eyebrow::eyebrow: now that doesn't sound right....

No, because then you have too many people asking dumb questions on SDN. I'd much rather have them flood Yahoo.

It is possible actually lol!

Drop out of high school---> go to another country and pay big $$---> finish dental school in 1-2 years---> come back to US & take licensing test--->wait 6-10 years for processing and approval---> get your DDS license---> apply to ortho program---> become orthodontist! and Bam!! your an orthodontist at 32! lol

except your skills as a dentist and as a business person would SUCK!

In many countries, you can go to DS right after high school and it is a 5 or 6 year program. I know in Ukraine it is a 5 year program and you can become a dentist at 22 or 23!!!

lol thats exactly what Im talking about! BUT if you want to live here you have to go through the whole license accreditation process and that takes anywhere between 6-10 years

You said drop out of high school and pay tons of money in another country to attend DS.... That is false
You got to graduate high school and it is really cheap. In Ukraine, for example, you pay $35,000 in six years including living expenses... I know this because my cousin is doing this and then he wants to practice in Jordan where he also needs to pass some exams and that would take about 2 years...
On the other hand, you are right that if someone wants to come from another country to practice in America, then it might take almost 10 years!!!

The only thing that is negative about that is the quality of dental education is so much worse. My former dentist did that route and let me tell you have the stuff she was doing she was refererring to her how to manual book. That's why the dentist is FORMER! lol

So, uhhhh, can you?

That's the OP's post haha, and the simple answer is no you can't, you need a high school diploma or a GED to get into College and then into DS

My highschool currently offers a 2 year dental dipolma program.
3 years if you want to specialize.

You dont get your GED though 🙁
