Anyone read the yahoo article putting pharmacists as higher earning than doctors, at an average of $99,000 vs. "doctors and surgeons" 😎 at $79,000, and NPs at $74,000. Maybe misinformation like this will help in our plight. 🙂

But realistically, this goes to show you how misinformed people are about healthcare.

If anyone believes that I honestly question their critical thinking ability (if they have any....)

According to those "statistics", a plumber makes heaps more than PCPs and Surgeons

Let's all be plumbers.

I just find it amazingly dumb that they would publish information like that. I mean even in the saddest of cases, I have not heard anyone starting lower than 150kish during current times. The yahoo article yesterday said factory workers make 100k but no one wants those jobs. If I make 79k as a doctor and 100k as a factory work, I'll sign up!

It's kind of shameful that they would not even bother checking any type of fact before posting figures. I also don't understand why they say "doctors and surgeons"-what are surgeons supposed to be, astronauts? It's hard to believe that the author does not realize surgeons are doctors as well?

Haha 100k for being a factory worker? Probably 100k Chinese dollars than 100k USD.

I never understood the division between doctors and surgeons. Maybe he was appeasing the ignorant public to make them go "Ooooh, surgeons make less too!?!"

Honestly the only type of doctor I know that would make that are optometrists. Sure they're not physicians, but the public won't know the difference! 😀

Yes I know! Even the posts say oh man 79k for a doctor that sucks they deserve more! Lol. We should get the author, Jenna Goudreau to write more articles for us, so people feel sorry and tell the gov we should make more! Lol.

We should all quit and become factory workers for 100k! Who wants to be a surgeon OR doctor for a paltry 79k! Lol. Optometrists make around 90-100k. And they are optometrists, not physicians.

I AGREE!! People for the longest time /complained/ about a physician's salary! "They get paid 150-300k a year! (depending on speciality)" Yes that is true... Before expenses. They don't seem to equate the massive debt, malpractice insurance, responsibilities and liabilities that a physician encounters.

Agreed. I'm going to drop my aspirations to become x y z because this Yahoo article written by a Ph.D famous person who was broadcasted on Ellen and Orpah said that doctors, not JUST doctors but SURGEONS make so little pay!

Sadly the writer has a degree in Sociology and journalism, and has a terribly difficult time writing accurate info.

I question her credentials. That, or journalists are taught to be amazing propaganda tools to skew the public into thinking the false. Ahhh, America...

I hate to tell you fine lads and lasses this, but I know MANY line workers who earn six figures. I also know MANY cops, parole officers, and charge nurse level management whose compensation package places them north of 100k. That number (apparently) is not as hard to hit today as it once was. When I finished residency in 2005, many of my med school classmates in IM, FP, EM, and Peds had entered the workforce the year prior, securing positions the year prior to that. Those who chose to stay in the metro area were taking salary offers of 89k (for 3.5d/week peds) to 120 - 140k for full time gigs, *possible* eligibility for production bonuses first year. The kicker was no one was going to hit their targets -- the employers knew this, but the carrot was necessary I suppose...

In any event, you will all have to work harder than most believe to earn a good living.
