Hi all,

I applied to Yale SPH in mid-December and got an e-mail today saying that I would be contacted for a phone interview as part of the preliminary screening process. (I'm applying to their Health Management program.) Has anyone else received this notification? Any ideas about what to expect?

Thanks!

though i havent heard from yale, i was excited to know they have started considering applications, congrats.I also applied to health management, hoping to hear from them soon. Im an international applicant

i applied last year and they rejected me without contacting me beforehand. Sounds like a good sign.

Wow,I just applied to Yale SPH so I'm excited to hear about the progress in applications ! How was the interview? I sure hope you got in!

the professors are super friendly and very engaging.

Just make sure you know why you're applying to their university, why you want to pursue the mph.

Are interviews conducted for all applicants or just certain concentration areas?

Interviews are usually conducted for applicants that they are considering admitting , but would like to speak/meet with to get a better feel/idea for. Helps them to solidify their decision based on your interaction with them.

and i imagine all departments do this-- not just a specific area.

Thanks for the information! I've applied to Yale but sent in my application rather late so still to hear from them. How long did it take for them to tell you about? I applied for the management and policy program so I also wanted to know whether the interviews are held for all concentrations. Since you mentioned they take interviews for people they consider admitting, how long do you think it could take them to mail any decision?

I got an email today saying my application is complete and that they would contact me once a decision has been made. Then it said to apply for financial aid and get everything in by March 1. They got my app. Jan 16, but I got this email today, too. Hmm. Does everybody get this email, or does it just mean I haven't been rejected yet and I should apply for aid? Thanks for any info on what you guys have been told by EPH. 😕😳

Hi, I was just told a few days ago they received my application and will contact me once they have confirmed that it is complete. Has anyone else been told this? contacted afterwards?

they'll just email you again to let you know your application is complete anf forwarded to the admissions committee.

I got an email asking me to fill their fin aid application too! Is this a good sign?

I think everyone gets that email after the admissions office has received their application. They just mention that if you plan on applying for financial aid, their deadline is 1st March and that you should probably start gathering appropriate documents and fill out applications. I am assuming that most students (atleast US citizens) will be notified of admission decisions before their financial aid deadline. Godd luck!!

i only got an email when they received my application from sophas. i didn't get any email about financial aid. is this because i am an international student? or is this department specific? i applied for the professional program and as a second choice for the chronic epi program. any ideas?

I am international citizen too. And I applied for HMP. What is the professional course you're taking about? They received my application on the 16th of Jan and I got this email today.

they have a professional advanced MPH program (1 year) if you already have an advanced degree such as MD or PhD.

Oh yes, they do. I read about that too but I'm a biomedical engineer so I didnt consider applying for that. When did they receive your application?

jan 15th. i submitted to sophas on 12/21

Below is the email I got from Yale. I am guessing everybody got this email:

Your MPH application is complete. When a decision has been reached, we will communicate with you again. We encourage you to begin processing your financial aid information as soon as possible. Our final financial aid deadline is March 1, 2008. For more information please visit our website at http://info.med.yale.edu/eph/student/finaid.html.

Thank you.

I submitted my application on 11/24 to SOPHAS and it was mailed out 12/28 I think and I received the above email on 01/02.

Hi there,

I had an interview with Yale for Health Management this past week, so feel free to PM me if you have questions or would like to compare notes!

I applied in late November, got an email notifying me of my interview in on January 9, interviewed on Jan 21 and got my response on Jan 31. All of this was for the HMP program.

Feel free to PM if anybody wants more information.

Calvdart- I have an interview with Yale for HPM. Any suggestions on how to prepare or what kind of q's they ask?

NB: This thread was from last year. But since I've gotten a few PM's about the Yale interview process so I'll post here since folks seem interested.

Yale only interviews for the management program and I'm fairly certain no faculty interview. I was interviewed by a recent alum and I'm sure there is some variation across interviewers as to what they will ask you about. Content was a basic behavioural interview i.e. what are 3 weaknesses, 3 strengths, tell me about a time you overcame adversity as a team, etc. I had no case portion and no questions about current events but I wouldn't rule them out as a possibility.

Basically, know why you want an MPH, why you want Yale and why you want to go into management. If you can communicate all these ideas effectively then you'll do fine.

Best of luck to everyone!
