A female med student at Yale has been missing since Tuesday. The FBI is seaching for her. She was to be married to a Columbia grad student this weekend.

And then there is the Craigslist Killer suspect, a Boston U med student. And the recent case of the pedophile med student at Albany.

Why all of this weird stuff at med schools? Why don't we ever hear anything about law students? You would think that there would be a few serial killers studying law, or perhaps dentistry. Just an odd confluence of strange happenings involving med students.

I don't know. My university just had 4 sexual assaults in the last 6 months, but it's not national news. They choose what they want to talk about.

yea shes a yale grad student, pharmacology and i hope they find her soon before her wedding

Nah she's a grad student, and as such its not premed business lol

I was watching the Today Show this morning and she was reported to be a med student. I guess the crack news staff at NBC cannot differentiate between a grad student and a med student.

She was last seen on video survellience tape entering a med school building at Yale, on her way to a lab. Several hours later a fire alarm in the building rang, and scores of people exited the building and she is not seen on the survellience tape exiting, but she might have been lost in the crowd. Her purse with her wallet, keys, credit cards were found inside the med school building. Pretty weird.

Law students aspire to be worse than mere serial killers! They aspire to be Lawyers!

Is she the Asian woman who graduated from University of Rochester prior?

I am from Rochester and saw this one the news but they only mentioned U of R and the wedding.

Anyway, I hope she's found.

The missing girl worked in the same work group at Rochester that I am currently at and I can tell you there are a lot of worried people.

Very sad business.

Our thoughts and prayers are definitely going to her and her family.

When I read about it I just thought she got cold feet about the wedding and bailed. I hope that's all it is.

dude, she weighs 90 pounds. Someone could probably fit her in a backpack.

This is three cases over about two years. So, 3 out of some 50,000 students. Medical students are certainly better as a bunch than undergraduate students, and probably on par with any other graduate or professional students. It's just that hearing about a future doctor being a sociopath is better news than a prelawyer being a bad guy - it stays in the public consciousness a little longer.

And again, you've heard of 3 out of tens of thousands. I don't think that's a significant number at all. Bad things happen in the world, medical students aren't immune.

The word you want is coincidence and even then it doesn't make sense in this context. There is no irony in you posting this link.

Anyway, I hope she's found.

Irony works. One would not expect someone who wrote an article on campus safety and crime to become a victim of crime. I believe this is the irony to which the op was referring.

If you look at the big scheme of things, there is much more crime outside of the medical academia. Given the amount of crimes in the news per capita pertaining to medical school (even though I do not know the numbers for sure) Im fairly certain that there is a much more crime per person not in medical school..

Just because someone is in medical school does not mean they aren't human.

bizarre.. they have video of her going in but not coming out. And apparently there's dozens of cameras on and around that building.

My money's on the rapture..

This is getting pretty crazy. So does this mean the culprit must have known her?

Theres a press conference now and they denied any body being found, looks like ny daily news jumped a little too early with this story.

The article specifically said a body was not found.

This reminds me of that med student from OSU that disappeared a few years back. I don't think he was ever found.

Labs are usually code-locked, right? This is so bizarre.

not necessarily code-locked but i believe this happened during the fire alarm

while cold feet was my first guess, it seems like it is something way more unfortunate now. hope everything does still work out

Bloody clothes stuffed in a ceiling? That's not good. God knows where they're going to find her body (assuming she was murdered) and what condition it's going to be in.

My prayers go out to her family and her fiance, I can't imagine what it's like to go from such a high (their wedding was supposed to be tomorrow) to such a low (having your best friend/love of your life taken from you).

"A professor who suddenly canceled a class Le was to attend around the time she went missing was questioned Friday, but had a rock-solid alibi and is not considered a suspect, a law enforcement source said."

jeez- kind of presumptuous to question her professor.

Another weird quote from a law enforcement official says that they can't definitively say she even left the building. There are seriously around 70 or so cameras around the building and they're going through all the footage.

Things like this definitely put things in perspective...

Here's the email that was sent to us:

With all the media attention this weekend about the disappearance of Annie Le, our third year pharmacology graduate student, I wanted to give you an update. Because of the numerous rumors and speculation, I asked representatives of the FBI, the Connecticut State Police, Yale and New Haven Police leaders to speak to the press this afternoon to clarify where things stand. The law enforcement authorities are letting no stone go unturned: it is impressive to see the cooperation and concerted action of more than 100 law enforcement experts who are working tirelessly as a team.

Alas, this remains the most perplexing mystery. We still do not know where Annie is or what has happened to her. We were told today that some items were found in the Amistad Building that are now being analyzed, but it is unknown at this time whether they are connected to her.

As I am sure you understand, at this delicate time it is particularly unhelpful to begin speculating or jumping to conclusions. If it does develop that a crime occurred, we want to do everything to ensure that the investigation proceeds as swiftly and completely as possible. We hope that anyone in our community or the area with helpful information will call the FBI hotline at 877-503-1950. Given the suggestions in some of the national press about general safety in the area, it is worth remembering that the City reports that crime in New Haven has decreased by more than 50% since 1990.

I have been in contact with Annie’s family and also her fiancé. As you would expect, we have underscored to them that the University wants to do everything in our power to find Annie and to do all that we can to support them. They asked us to share their own request that everyone respect their privacy in these horrible days for them.

This is a difficult time for many in this community, too, as we worry about Annie. Martha Highsmith, Deputy Secretary, has been holding informational sessions with those who work and study in the Amistad Building and elsewhere in the School of Medicine complex; and there will be additional sessions when the deans think they can be useful. Students in particular should feel free to share this email with any family members and friends who have questions.

Thanks to all who have been expressing concern for Annie and her family and friends. Like you, I fervently hope that the mystery of her disappearance will soon be solved.

Can't you infer from the "very sad update" and my comments that it had said a body was found but that it was then subsequently edited?

Either it was edited or you can't read. I just assumed the latter. My apologies!

Here's the email that was sent to us:

Haha, that's funny because crime rate dropped 40% overall nation-wide in the 1990's alone.

"According to new research by a University of California, Berkeley, law professor, the crime rate dropped dramatically during the 1990s, falling 40 percent in cities and states across the country and in all major crime categories from homicides to auto thefts, producing the longest and deepest crime decline in the United States since World War II."

Actually, looking at this site:
http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm

Crime rates dropped about 50% in every city in the country. If New Haven was unsafe relative to other cities in 1990, it still is today.

She was called a med student and then later a phd student in one program I was watching, but they later went on to say she was a double doctorate...so I'm guessing MD/phd? This was on MSNBC by the way.

shes a pharmacology graduate student whos lab is in yale school of medicine.

Probably the groom's best friend. Or hopefully cold feet.

WTF is wrong with you people?

sorry, but gonna wait out for a credible news source

Yeah, I edited my post but it looks like it didn't go through. The addendum was along the lines of "I hope the daily news just jumped the gun here...wouldn't be the first time."

Really hoping they had bad information.

Seriously, if you can walk out of a research lab witout being seen on camera there is something wrong with that building's security. Maybe she hopped out a window? Or alternatively someone came through a window to get her.

And on campus too! Exactly what I meant. 👍

It's amazing how a person can just vanish in such a public place and there be no witnesses. Be it by her own actions or by those of another person.

There was another Yale student, an undergrad, who was stabbed to death maybe about 11 years ago.... an instructor was the chief suspect but never charged. The case remains unsolved.

OMG u guys are so into news.... I didnt even know that somebody was missing... Due to my personal views and principals I dont watch/read news at all

You will probably get banned. Nobody is that stupid in real life, at least nobody that I have met.

According to cnn.com, investigators have found bloody clothes hidden in the ceiling tiles in the medical research facility where she was last known to be. Unfortunately, I think shes dead.

This is really strange, and unfortunately it doesn't look like it will have a happy ending. I hope they find her alive and well, it's scary to see something like this.
