Well...seems a lot ppl are in the delimma.

I'm in biostat.....got admissions also from umich and emory, but since I would like to have a job in NYC, I wont consider the two.

Yale says it only takes 4-6mph in biostat each year. no more than 10 including mph ms phd...so a great interaction with professors and students.

however, I'm wonder whether campanies will come to such a small group to recruit....

Well, for columbia.......i love new york for no reason!!
but it has 100+ students each year.

i am also deciding between yale and columbia for epi. i visited yale on friday and really liked it. i was not expecting that at all. i have yet to visit columbia. some of the topics i am having difficulties on :
1) chronic disease epi, i dont like that epi is split up at yale. i dont have a preference for one concentration over the other (chronic or micro), and while i like all of the epi classes, i dont like the idea of graduating with a degree labeled as chronic disease. especially because chronic disease has a behavioral connotation and i do not want to work in behavior science.
2) yale is research based, columbia is practice based. seems that yale graduates are sought after phd students
3) new haven- small georgetown/boston/cambridge,uk feel. very very smart atmosphere. intellectual.
new york city- job opportunities are limitless, also very fast paced, soo many people, culture and constant excitement and activities
4) small program and a lot of faculty interaction and research opportunities or big school (public health army feel!) with any program or interest area i could possibly imagine

does anyone have the same issues? what are you thinking??
