I'm a CA-3 right now. It's not bad. we have good comraderie and we work a little harder than your average program but probably not as hard as MGH and hopkins. 6-10 calls/moth depending on the rotation. SICU is pretty rough
but they keep you right at 80 hours.
the faculty is awesome. lots of textbook writers here. Paul barash is a trip. you learn your $hit pretty well. regional has been weak but its improving.
single life is actually ok. there are tons of small colleges around New haven and lots of 20-30 year olds that go out every night of the week. NY is a little over an hour drive. Boston is 2 hours. I surf year round in rhode island. the skiing is icy but vermont is a pretty cool state.
we have opprtunities to make extra cash but they dont want you to moonlight. you can take shifts in the ICU for about 800/shift. there are little bonuses here and there.
what else do you want to know?

Is Yale an IMG friendly program.. In case it is, what do you think that are the requirements they are looking for in IMGs...?
Thx
you probably wont believe me but the attendings ask which candidates stayed late at the dinner the night before. they like it when people stay out and party with us a little. they also want to know who had a good personality.
IMG=no problem

Hey supahfresh,
I didn't know you go out with a different 20-30 yr old chick every night of the week, that's impressive.😉.
I am a CA 1 at the Yale anesthesiology program,I am a foreign grad.Every year there are atleast one or two IMGs,who usually have previous experience in anesthesia.(I did a whole anesthesia residency in my country)
Its a busy program, but you will be prepared for anything after you graduate.
Camaraderie is great,we have an awesome CA3 year and equally wonderful CA1s.
Residents go out a lot except few boring ones like me(I am married and prefer being around my spouse).
New Haven is not bad either,it has great restaurants and great nightlife.
I am going to the ASA conference coming up and so are selected few that our dept is sending.
Our Journal clubs are usually held the finest restaurants.Didactics are good.
Hope that helps

is competition for yale like columbia/hopkins/the toughest?
with a 217 from a good school any chances?
im from ct originally and would like to return to the area
you have a chance. its probably not as competitive as those programs and there is more to getting in than just a board score.
long live Modern Apizza!
it's the coal-fired oven that makes it magical.

Just slammed two burgers at Louis Lunch! Best burgers in the world!
I surf year round in rhode island.

I want to know how you surf year round in Rhode Island? I mean I realize it is probably possible, but really?

I used to live above Bentara (if it's still there) and miss running downstairs for some quality Malaysian food when I was too lazy to make dinner.
I also lived around the corner from Modern Apizza.
And when I moved again (couldn't settle on a place) it was down the street from Romeo & Joe's market in East Rock. Best subs in town.
See a pattern?
all i have to say is that supafresh is one cool cat... several of us got tipped off to his identity at our Yale dinner 2 yrs ago. Man did some of us get ****faced that night... i still remember my head was spinning @ 6:30 the following morning. great bunch of residents from who i remember that came out
