Hey Guys, I've been reading the boards for a while, and finally decided to register and get your opinions on my situation. HS Graduate in 2005, 3.8 HS GPA, attended U. Florida for 3 years (3.1 GPA), transferred to U. of Central Florida Summer 2008. Maintained 3.5 GPA at UCF since (3.2 Cumulative). Switched from Psychology to Molecular Biology, so I have about 2 years of science classes left. Volunteer in Radiology for 6 months in HS. Worked at hospital (trauma center) in radiology as Triage Clerk for a little under 2 years. I basically answered phones, took messages, etc. Also, after a while I was able to protocol studies based on the patients symptoms (clinical presentation, labs, history...) after talking to the physician. I had a great educational experience there, and have been told that I have at least an interview at the affiliated medical school. I also have great recommendations from Attendings/Chief Residents being offered. Going for EMT-B over the summer, and hope to get an ER tech job at a local hospital within the year. My questions: 1) I still work 20 hours a week currently. What additional activities would you recommend? 2) What, if anything, would you recommend doing at this time (Other than what I already mentioned), to improve my profile when looked at by medical schools? I don't plan on staying in state for medical school, and top choices would be in the Northeast (preferably New York). Again, thanks in advance for your input. Any other questions for me, just post.

Your ECs are strong. Just Raise your GPA over the next 2 years and do well on the MCAT.

Your first priority needs to be getting that GPA closer to the competitive range. Since you got your clinical experience at work and plan more through the workplace, it would be good to have some type of community service as well, which need not be clinically oriented (2-4 hours per week on a regular basis, ideally). You have research experience, which is good. Adcomms will like to see something for leadership in addition. BTW, adcomms will not like to see high school experiences listed on the application, but fortunately you have plenty of other clinical exposure if my understanding of the timing is correct.
