I read up on most of the posts about LORs but need some insight from others that may have had this problem before.

I really want to get my secondaries out ASAP when the time comes but am about 99.99% sure that one of my letters will NOT be written in time to get them out any time soon. I don't want to be too specific, but I have a committee letter that will be coming from a school that is pretty infamous about not realizing people should apply early to med schools.🙄 The process at this school assures us that letters will be sent by around OCTOBER! 👎(yeah, good plan I know...and that's for those that submit ASAP to the school!)

So, from what I gather from the AMCAS readings is that schools will expect this letter IF I list it, but that I don't have to list it and can get secondaries out with all of my other letters should this school decide to really drag their feet. Would this be wise or would it be best to just list all of my expected letters now and hope they come in sooner rather than later?

It seems like I can really screw myself over by submitting the list of letters now and assigning them to schools before they are actually received by AMCAS.

Would it be best to submit AMCAS without listing letters and add them to the system/schools once what I need actually goes through?

Thanks everyone!

yes

Are the medical schools you are applying doing the AMCAS Letter Service? If so then you have list the letters on your AMCAS application and also send your letters to AMCAS so they can forward it to the MD school. You can submit your AMCAS now and wait until AMCAS get the letters and then you can assign it to the school.

If the MD school you're applying to doesnt do the letter service then you can send the letters later bypassing AMCAS.

My advice is NOT do the Committee Letter. If the MD school you are applying doesnt need it then you shouldnt waste your time. And possibly get a bad committee letter like one of my friend did.

Yes, all but one of the schools is using AMCAS. The reason I ask is that the committee letter should be great (I can't really talk about how I know this without going into more than appropriate) but will likely slow me down.

Don't certain schools REQUIRE that letter if your school offers it? This is what really bugs me.

Anyone know where I can find which schools require this letter if it is available?

Thanks again!

Even if a school requires it, you can just write a one sentence explanation saying why you don't have it. I applied to quite a few schools who required it, and my explanation was that my professors know me better than a "committee" would. Also, I was a nontrad student, so that helped explain why a committee wouldn't be a good idea.
