Hi everyone, I am pursuing my pre-med degree and have a question about grades. I know that the ADCOM will total your grades in specific courses to form new GPA's, such as a chemistry GPA, biology GPA, etc. Well I am worried, because I have a couple grades that are not so good. I got an E in Anatomy the first time I took it, then I repeated it and got a BA. I also got a couple D's in algebra classes my first year in school, but since then have gotten A's in precalc and calculus courses. Finally I got a D in an intro to chemistry course my first year of school, but since than have gotten a B+ in both general chemistry courses I've taken. Will these grades be factored in and will they affect my chances of getting into DO school? Thanks everyone.

no one cares what you did in the first years. it's what you do in yhe main classes and mcat

AACOMAS calculates your grade for retakes by only taking your most recent grade. So if you retook a class and did better you'll have the improved grade only.

Obviously, it won't help you to have E's and D's on your transcript, but if you've shown a strong upward trend since then you should be dandy.

Low grades are a concern to admits, but you will be in better shape since those grades are from when you first started and you have shown improvement since then. You will need tp briefly explain in your personal statement why you did so poorly in the begining. Don't whine or blame things, just be honest and state facts and then move on. And of course don't get any more bad grades.

Good luck

Thanks everyone, that makes me feel a lot better! I really appreciate the help, this is a great site! Thanks again.
