hey all,
im just finishing up my junior year and im planning on taking the mcats this summer (aug).
so should i apply to DO schools even before that? thats what it sounds like to me from other people's posts - and we just do the application without the mcat score, and the mcat score just gets to the schools whenever it gets out?
but then what about my senior year in school? i was planning on re-taking some classes to help get my rather moderate 3.0 gpa up. should i wait till at least im done with my first sem of senior year so my gpa goes up a little (as my older bad bad grades get replaced with whatever i get)?
thanks!

also does waiting and not applying right in may make me miss a whole year? cause anyways the application deadlines for most COM's seems to be around feb 1st? so is it ok to just get everything in by then?

Apply June, 2006.

You can submit transcripts and MCATs to the school after the application has already been processed and recieved.

Yes, waiting may make you miss a whole year.

No, it is not ok to just get everything in by then.

Your application needs to be completed and submitted prior to taking your MCAT.

What will happen if you wait until Feb:
Many interviews would have been hosted, and the acceptance process would have started. Even though you'll have great credentials, etc, applying late will hurt you no matter what.

At some places, it will be too late to recieve an interview. This late in the process, only late applicants with exceptional credentials will squeeze in.

Those with lower credentials must apply early, to get a spot before the people with better credentials have even applied. This limits the competition.

i was thinking of applying jan 2007 because by then i would have completed another sem at college and gotten some bad grades replaced - and might have a better gpa to show to the med schools.

does that make sense? or will i be at a huge disadvantage?

cause i really dont want to wait a year before i go to med school... so im just trying to get in right after college. just want to know whats the best deal. apply now with a lower gpa or wait till later?

No, it does not make sense. If your grades are not high enough, then they will simply put your application on hold. You can then submit grades later.

I don't understand the rationale of waiting to send in the application. If you send it in January, the application may not even be complete until March. It takes just a few days for you to send any new grades at the end of the semester to an already complete application if you had previously submitted it.

Complete your application prior to the fall semester. You can send the grades in later, whether you hear from schools or not.
