I still haven't submitted my primary application, but will in the next 3 days! Am I late? I won't be turning in my secondaries until early August because I'll wait until my 2nd MCAT score comes in.

If I submit now, how long before I get it verified, and how long before I get secondaries? I'm afraid I screwed myself over being late cause I was too focused on the MCAT (took it July 2nd).

Please help!

its currently taking 3 weeks or so to get verified. you aren't late yet, but you should go ahead and get it in asap. as soon as you are verified you should start getting secondaries based upon your current mcat then more once your new score is released.

There's no reason to worry about it now. Just submit as soon as you are comfortable. Do not rush through the primary. Having a good app is more important than having an early app. Verification should take a few weeks, but there are schools that will send you secondaries before you are verified. You'll be fine.

Marjan, welcome back !

I don't think you are very late. I think some of the secondaries will be coming even without AMCAS verification.

Just start working on the essays now and by the time you get your score you should be verified and have your essays ready.

I hope you did well on the test.

Hey, thanks Doc! Is there anyway I can figure out the essays I need to fill out for secondaries? Can I call and ask the schools? Or do I just sit around and wait for them to send the secondaries my way?

I still need to:

1) Get my school to release my transcript. Does this take long after I give them the release form?
2) Do my composite interview with my adviser, then she has to write a letter for me. Does this need to be done for the primary or secondary application?
3) Release my LORs onto my AMCAS. I don't think this takes any time at all!

1) It took AMCAS about a week to 10 days to officially receive my transcripts after I dropped off the transcript request forms or mailed them to my schools. (Keep in mind this was in May, but it should be similar for you) You won't be placed in line to be verified until AMCAS receives these transcripts (with the verification taking 3 weeks itself), so have your school send them out right away.

2) Letters of recommendation are for secondaries. You can submit your primary app right now with out any letters, but once your letter is done, you make an entry in AMCAS for your committee letter and print out an 'AMCAS letter ID form'. Give that to your advisor to mail it along with your letter to AMCAS. It takes about usually a week from once a letter is mailed for AMCAS to give you a 'received' status for your letter.

And you can start working on most of the secondaries as the prompts for this cycle have been posted in the 2009-2010 school discussion forum. Just make sure to work only on schools that don't screen.

Good luck

Wow, I guess I'm kinda behind.

But since I have the prompts from the secondaries, I would be using the next 4 weeks or so to work on them anyway, whether the primary application is verified or not, and whether or not the schools have formally sent me their secondaries.

I'll have everything done and ready to ship out as soon as my new mcat score comes in, and that'll be around the same time I get my secondary applications from the schools! I hope my logic is right, and this isn't all wishful thinking 🙁
