so today, 5 months and 3 weeks into my application season, Davis decides to send me a secondary.

should i bother spending all that time on those 8 essays? it's finals time for me right now, so if i do it, i'll be sending it in sometime around the end of december.

is it even worth it? i mean, everyone else who applied in early june got their secondaries by july or august.....well everyone i know at least. so i know this drastically reduces my chances of getting in, but by sending it to me this late, does this mean they just want my 60 bucks so they can send me a rejection letter?

that's awful, i'm sorry to hear about it. well, if you don't mind the $60 you could fill out the application over break if you have the time, although the fact that they sat on your application for half a year without taking any action (that sounds so ridiculous) might not be a good omen.

Think about it this way. They rejected a lot of people pre-secondary. If they sent you one, they most likely are interested in you. The application game isn't over until its over. And what better way to put off studying for those pesky finals than writing essays about every experience you have had in the last four years!

Congrats on the secondary. Davis is very selective about who they send it to. Did you hear via snail mail or email?

Davis does everything by email.

I too got a secondary from them, after completing AMCAS in June. But I have decided way back not to complete their secondary. If you have any acceptances or don't have any particular interest in UCD, I suggest not completing it either. It costs 60 bucks and their secondary is a killer.

yes...everything... 👎

why is that bad? just curious....i guess it's just preference....i like the schools that communicate via email instead of mailing you at every step.

oh, well, because i found it really impersonal to have received my only notification of my rejection via e-mail. Its not so much that i expected them to blitz me with the info that i had been rejected, but i dunno, when you get an e-mail that says:

The Admissions Committee of the School of Medicine, University of
California, Davis has completed a careful review of your application for
admission. I regret to inform you that the Committee is unable to offer you
a place in the Class entering fall of 2005.

Each year the number of applicants for admission far outnumber the
positions available in the entering class and as a result, the Committee
must refuse admission to a very large number of well qualified and highly
motivated men and women.

Thank you for your interest in our school. I wish you well in your future
endeavors.

...and UCD is your undergrad institution and you work there still...bleh. I had hoped they'd let me down easier is all. Oh well, you only need one acceptance, right?

If you're interested in coming here, do the secondary. There are plenty of people in my class who interviewed very late in the cycle and got in. Davis can be very slow. And the essays shouldn't be too bad as many of them overlap with stuff you have done for other schools. Good luck.

I got my davis secondary about a month ago after being complete from Amcas in june. My friend goes to davis and she says they are really slow with everyhting so it is really not too late to fill it out. Hopwefully we will both get invites after the new year. Good luck

...although i did hear from others who interviewed this year that they have a new adcom in place and are on pace to finish all of their interviews by march (so what happened last year might not be very representative of what's going to happen this year). anyone else get this information from the interview?

Think you got it bad? They just sent me their secondary on 1/11 - over 6 months after they receiving my AMCAS!! 😡

they aren't like other schools. they basically put everyone on hold and only accept the occasional person at this point. Whereas many schools have accepted a good portion of the class, Davis puts everyone on hold, then after the bulk of interviews, they start sending acceptances. Most will start going out after Feb/Mar.

that's definitely not happening, at least this year. they have their act together and are pretty quick about notifying applicants at every stage in the process after secondaries.
