recently got accepted and have always been interested in plastic surgery. do you need to go to a top 20 med school to match into plastic surgery? or is it still possible if I go to a mid-tier school?

Only 40% of Plastics matches come from the Top 40 so no, not even close to that exclusive

Definitely don't need to go to a top 20 school. There is a pretty strong anti-DO bias though.

It's also important to go to a school with a home program, both because it helps you match there and will help you make research connections. The most important things are going to be a good step 1 score, building relationships with faculty who will vouch for you, doing well on aways (kind of a subset of relationships), and research.
