I was thinking of buying a motorcycle because the cost of the gas is of the charts. I commute about 1 and half to 2 hours everyday and that's braking the bank vault already. :scared: Basically I spend anywhere from $100 to $150 of gas a month. So, who of you here use other modes of transportation?

I'll add, for those riding motorcycles. Does it work out for you? I mean convenience-wise?

Move closer to wherever you're commuting to? Probably the best way to cut down on gas if the cost of living isn't significantly different.

I personally perfer small cars.

Eh, I commute to a community college and live in parents house. Not really an option.

1. random thread.
2. train?

My city sucks. Large inner city but the suburbs extend for dozens of miles out and I go to a Suburb CC, which turns out there is no other form of transport besides a bus that I've seen once.

How do you grocery shop with a motorcycle?

I like them, but I also like being able to carry large quantities of stuff around.

You left out like 5 other modes of transportation...

Skateboard, motorboat, kayak, Segway...

That's 4, but I was referring to modes of transportation which you actually see on streets, highways, you know? I like in the middle of the US, how am I going to use a motorboat to get to school, let alone a kayak. A seaway for 40 miles? Don't think so. :scared:

I walk the couple miles to my college; not really a option in your case though.

I would love to ride a motorbike all the time but I HATE stupid drivers and southern California is FULL of them. So I drive a damn car. My school is less then 20 minutes away by walking and 5 minutes by pedal-bike. So, I'll walk or ride. Buuuuut, I would rather take public transportation everywhere if I could (except for when I want to go on leisure bike rides of course 😀). I'm talking about fast and efficient fast and efficient public transport. None of that waiting at the bus stop for 20 minutes bull. I wish this country's transportation system developed with the idea of having monorails throughout metropolis areas running 24/7. 👍

Bus? Moped? Taxi? Metro/Rail? Carpool? Rapid Transit?

I voted car, though I'd love a motorcycle. But the crappy weather out here is not conducive to it. Alas!

I love the train for long trips. You meet very interesting people on trains. One trip could have been entitled "College Bodybuilders and the Cougars Who Want to Bone Them"

I know exactly what you mean. Every time I see a motorcycle, the rider is almost killed because of suburb mom's who drive gigantic SUV's thinking they own they own the world. 😡

This used to be my commuter until the head started acting crazy and jumped timing (bending nearly every valve)

This is my ride:

...but only when I'm fighting for truth, justice, and the American Way. For quick jaunts around town while I'm wearing my glasses, I drive a GMC Suburban. Gets better gas milage.

I think metro or train is for sure the best way to get around if available. reduces traffic and you can do other stuff as you ride (like study or people watch)

but sadly my Californian ways force me to drive as public transportation is horrible where i live.

... and motorcycles increase anyones hotness factor 😍

I'm from California. I don't like anything with more than 4 wheels.

😛, Maybe this is the subconscious reason I want a motorcycle. 😳

Well, since the people voting on this poll probably don't live in your city, the other common modes of transportation should have been included...

It might be difficult for the OP to carry books on a motorcycle.

Can I vote Motorcycle if I WISH my car were a motorcycle? 😉

I worked at an ICU all summer and when I started there was this 22 year old kid there who was on a motorcycle and got hit....then flew over the railing of the bridge to fell 20 feet. He stayed in our unit for 3 months and among other things had to have his spleen removed and had a halo on for good 2 months. Not fun. So I do not advise anyone to get a vehicle that may end up costing them months, years or the rest of their life.

[Edit] the accident was not his fault so I don't think "but I am a good driver" argument will work here
