Hi Everyone,
My MCAT score was just released last week, it will be out of my mind for certain time. I will be focusing on my public research for this year, and then apply for med school next summer. Here are my stats, please advise. Thanks in advance for your kind input.
Undergraduate (Top 5 national University):
Major: Social Science, graduated with Dept. Honor.
3.74cgpa, 3.58sgpa (freshman/sophomore/junior/senior/post bac: 3.33, 3.47, 3.64, 3.69, 3.70).
Graduate Study (Master Degree in Public Health) at the same University as the UG
MCAT:
519:128/131/130/130
Resident: US citizen, Chinese American; Male; CA Resident
Clinical Volunteer:
2 years (100 hrs, ongoing now) Skilled Nursing Facility, serving post-op rehab and demented patients
4 years (150 hrs, ongoing) Hospice units at local VAs: pt transportation, reading, storytelling, entertaining, and games
2 years (80 hrs, ongoing) Community Health Education Clinic, working under mentoring physicians and with other partner university students to educate the under served residents
4 years (>150 hrs) of comprehensive clinic rotations and shadowing (Internal medicine, Family Medicine, General Surgery/OR, Hematology, Neurology, Urology, Dermatology, Pediatrics) at local Medical Foundation and my university hospital
80 hours Medical Relief Team Worker worked with volunteer US physicians and Nurses for the disadvantaged countryside patients in South America
Community Volunteer:
5 years University Orchestra musician
4 years University Daily News desk editor and managing Editor
4 years Art Intern for one of my University’s Art Groups
5 years Founder and President, Community Youth Orchestra-60 members, founded the group with my university orchestra friends and local musicians to promote the classical music and raise funds (>$7000.00) for Local Children Hospital and American Red Cross
Tutor:
3 summers (80-100 hrs each) Worked as mentor for the Summer Journalism Camp on my University campus
5 years (4-8 hrs/month) Flute tutor for local middle and high school students in my University's neighborhood
Research:
3 years (3 hrs per day for 9 quarters): at my University Stem Cell Facility to work on generating induced pluripotent stem cells. I have successfully mastered the techniques to manipulate stem cells and constantly provided the needed cultures for my lab technicians. One Abstract at the University Symposium. No publication. Plan to continue the similar research when in Medical School.
Hobbies: Golfing, photography, and video editing.
