Just curious.

Obviously, not all methods will be available for all classes... there's no real hands-on way for learning biochem I guess 🙂

We're given printed handouts and slides each week for the lectures. I go to about 90% of my lectures because I always seem to get something out of them, like they'll give test questions in a not so obvious way. But to REALLY incorporate the material in my head, I condense the notes and slides they give us by typing up my own. Yes, VERY time consuming, but VERY effective for me. Them before the exam, I make index cards on the major concepts.

I prefer a one-on-one tutorial and finding a quiet room where I can't hear a pin drop and just going at my notes and books. I get very very little from lectures since it just goes in one ear and right out the other.

highlight the first time through, circle or underline with pen the 3rd time through, and when you finish a unit or a section and you feel pretty comfortable with the material, go back through and write down the points that you think you might not remember or that are crucial. it makes a quick condensation of points you had trouble with. good luck.

I am a huge fan of copious amounts of reading. I enjoy lectures and labs because they integrate the material, put it into perspective, and require relatively little self-motivation. I'm in a PBL independent study program, and if I depended only on lectures, I would surely fail the boards in two years.

Make flashcards on **** I know I am going to forget.

Ensure I understand the underlying concepts, then start getting some details in.

Copious amts of reading is great, then I hit a smaller book and it makes things so much simpliar 🙂

I don't get that much out of the cadaver labs. Best method is to read through everything once, then go through a second time rewriting everything in my own words. Then find a good practice test in PreTest or online to catch loose ends missed from the main notes.

Lectures? They have those? That must be where all my classmates go in the morning 🙂

I don't get anything out of lectures and very little out of anatomy lab....I usually read and make super abbreviated notes to blast through as the weeks go on to try to keep it all straight.
