I think "who's" vs. "whose" drives me more insane.

I've been guilty of looking at a simple word for too long and it starts to look toetally wrong.

Also, I found after typing a paper I always mistype hospital to hosptial. Every. friggin. time.

It sometimes mildly annoys me when someone says/writes "As per your request." The "as" is completely unnecessary and makes you look dumb, although usually people say that phrase when they're trying to sound professional or smart.

Another minor annoyance: irregardless

What is there not to get? Like English is super easy to learn, especially later in life? And accents can just go away?
What I don't get is some people I've been exposed to and you have too. Presumably intelligent people, who move (or whose families moved them) here and who become ultimately well-educated professionals, academicians, doctors or whatever. But who aren't smart enough to realize that their failure to become proficient in the language of their new country is and will always remain a problem FOR THEM.

I've learned a foreign language. I'm complimented on my capability and on my accent. Yes, heavy accents can be reduced and language capability can be attained. It just takes effort and time.

People who arrive here before their education is finished and yet who speak/write English for **** and can't be understood, have absolutely no excuse. I don't get it. Help me understand.

i.e. and e.g. get mixed up ALL THE TIME.

Using Latin only makes you sound smart if you use it correctly.

Get over it people. Most people know the difference, but don't edit "they're" posts. Someone once laughed at me because I put "pole" and not "poll". Even if you find it funny or annoying you do not need to post a reply. If it's funny, laugh, but don't antagonize or ridicule the person. It was as if they assumed they were better than me because I had one typo in my comment. I'm sure I've made a mistake here, but it doesn't mean I'm an idiot. Unless you guys are 6th grade grammar teachers or are proofreading an admissions essay, you should probably let it go.

ROFL. I had to bump this thread because I just saw this. That was me. It was funny because there was a sexual context to the post, so kind of a funny wordplay from the error. I guess it really ate you up though.
