Just got a "we're reviewing your application" message from USF.... I am surprised considering that I applied to every single program in the country how few responses I have gotten. I have heard something back from like 25% of all of the programs.
Wait is this for prelim? USF doesn't have pmr right??
Yes, USF has a categorical PM&R program. Decent program...PC leaves lots to be desired. I'm the least anonymous person on this forum and I am fine with saying that.
Aaand I just got a prelim interview in Chicago. Weird. Good thing I love ChicagoI got Marianjoy as well. Yay for being under qualified. I now have interviews at all of the Chicago programs except for RIC and I don't have any ties to the region. Looks like my odds of ending up in Chicago are pretty high now.
Loyola Jan. 6th here as well!
Last weeks question of the weekend:
Is it pronounced "phys-eye-a-try" or "phy-ee-a-try"?
Answer: Depends on region.

What day is the Louisville invite?
Absolutely! As a service dog trainer, I fully support this.. otherwise we'd be saying people that need a dog shouldn't eat in public.Last weeks question of the weekend:

There is almost always just one kind of interview for mixed programs. Everyone interviews and then ranks both categorical and advanced.Quick question,
I have an interview at Penn. I'm unsure if I am interviewing for the advanced or the categorical position as the invite didn't specify. Do most programs interview everyone and decide who gets the categorical spots? I'm not sure how it works...
Nice, you probably got the first invite. What are the dates for Stanford?Yeah, limbo is the worst. Makes getting an invite even seem less exciting. If Stanford weren't my top choice, I'd probably not have been so happy.
There is almost always just one kind of interview for mixed programs. Everyone interviews and then ranks both categorical and advanced.
University of Washington, for example, submits the same rank list for their categorical and their advanced spots. They say this: "Please note that because we submit identical match lists for our categorical and our advanced tracks, you will need to rank BOTH if you want to potentially match to both. For example, if you only rank our categorical track, you will only be eligible for those three positions. If we fill those positions before the NRMP system reaches your name on our rank list, you will not be automatically considered for our advanced track. To be considered for both tracks, you need to rank both tracks in order of preference.
This is a question that I will likely ask in the general forum.
My situation is a bit different. I am done with an internship. I am looking to enter a PM&R residency for the 2016 cycle. Because of that I am applying two years in advance to advanced and not categorical programs. I will be applying to a few categorical/advanced programs this year.
I am trying to understand the ranking process and my question is as follows: When I rank a program does it give the option of categorical vs advanced. When programs rank me, will they also have the same option? It is very important for me to know this because I am unable to match categorical this year because my military commitment is not up until summer 2016.
My understanding from talking to residents is that with a program that offers advanced and categorical positions that you rank them as if they were two separate programs (1. Penn (A), 2. Penn (C), 3. ....). For the advanced position you then get a "sub-rank" for your PGY1 year. So it is essentially it is 1. Program X then PGY1 A, B, or C; 2. Program Y then PGY1 E, F, G.
You don't have to rank categorical and advanced spots for mixed programs. You can just rank their advanced spots. Then you would be safe.Great...I will probably have to clarify it with the programs. What would suck is matching to a categorical program. I would blown my opportunity to actually match to a program I could attend, along with the nearly $10k spent.
