Adcoms want to know if you are going to do research during the PhD and beyond. Given your limited involvement with lab, have you truly answered that question for yourself? You can do research during/after med school too.

They love athletes. We have several former D1 athletes in our program. As for the Japanese, go to Japan and work at Riken Institute for a year after graduation, and you will be highly competitive for MSTP.

PM me if you need. Agree that you need to increase the depth of your research experience, perhaps during a gap year. In the big picture, the P/F is not an issue. Do it as you love it. If you apply to do your year (or two) of research at Riken, indeed, you will be competitive but it will be expensive to interview.
