I have the opportunity to take the Elmendorf Alaska rotation next year (2015) in February or March. Has anyone taken this rotation and have advice, or would you want to do it again? To be honest, I do not know much about the base or the rotation.

Hope you like the cold. I knew a few guys that were stationed up there when I was enlisted. They said there is a ton of outdoors stuff: hunting, fishing, etc. But basically it is like 3 seasons of winter, and one season of summer.

Been to the Elmendorf's annual airshow a few times about 20-25 yrs ago (http://www.jber.af.mil/arcticthunder/ and https://www.flickr.com/photos/72213316@N00/sets/72157624508964643/). I know nothing about pharmacy on base, but can comment on AK and Anchorage. 6 months of winter (cold with a lot of ice and snow-most vehicles rusted from the salt), 1.5 months break-up, 3 months of summer, and 1.5 months of fall. Snow on the ground from October through the end of April most years. Last year was unseasonably warm. Endless outdoor activities, and good skiing at Alyeska Resort. Check out Portage glacier too. Many hiking/running/biking trails in Anchorage, and moose are common in town. About 50% of the state's population is in Anchorage.

Two fellow students just completed APPE there, and they LOVED it. You can take the train up to Mt. McKinley, and points in between. The Great Alaskan Bush Company is a fun place-what more can I say?!
