Hi,

Case Western Reserve University is currently soliciting applications to fill the following fellowship for an anticipated start date of July 1, 2011.

Cutaneous Oncology Fellowship

The Cutaneous Oncology Fellowship is a one year position with the opportunity for a second year. As the Cutaneous Oncology Fellow, you work as a sub-investigator for clinical trials, preparing patient presentations for a weekly tumor conference, assisting Drs. Kevin Cooper, Jeremy Bordeaux, Meg Gerstenblith, Jorge Garcia-Zuazaga, and Kord Honda with the multidisciplinary melanoma and lymphoma programs, and seeing patients in melanoma and lymphoma clinics. You also have the opportunity to work on an independent research project. The department participates in multicenter trials and also performs investigator-initiated trials that translate findings from our labs. Cutaneous oncology is both stimulating and challenging, and this fellowship will enable the candidate to establish expertise in medical dermatologic oncology.

Applicants MUST have completed a PGY-1 year by July of 2011. Pay and benefits are commensurate to PGY-2 level (currently $49,525 for the 2009-2010 academic year).

Interested applicants should submit the following information: letter of interest updated CV, list of references, copy of your Dean's letter, and a copy of your USMLE step I score (and II, if available).

We anticipate starting our review of completed applications on March 19, 2011. Preference will be given to those candidates with a genuine interest in contributing to academic dermatology, whether through clinical or basic science research. Applicants with an MD/PhD degree or with strong prior training in basic science or clinical research are especially encouraged to apply. However, we welcome and will review all competitive applicants.

As Professor of Dermatology, Co-Director of the Skin Disease Research Center and Chair of the Department of Dermatology at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, Dr. Cooper was recently awarded the Marion B. Sulzberger Memorial Leadership Award from the American Academy of Dermatology. He is also the current president of the Association of Professors of Dermatology.

The Case Western Reserve University Department of Dermatology is one of the top centers of excellence worldwide in skin research and brings state-of-the-art research to help patients with skin diseases. The Department's research efforts span basic biology of the skin, mechanisms of clinical disease, human in vivo skin function, and clinical trials.

The Department of Dermatology has consistently been placed in the top 10 nationwide for NIH research funding, which creates an exceptionally strong milieu for investigation.

Please msg back with questions if you would like to discuss the fellowship in further detail or discuss the fellowship further on the phone. Seven of the last eight fellows in this position, including the last 2, have matched into Dermatology.

Thanks.

Hi,

Just a quick update. We are interviewing our first batch of candidates next Thursday. If you are still interested in this position, please PM or email us early next week.

Thanks.

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for your inquiries.

Regarding multiple inquires regarding the timing of Step III, we do NOT require Step III to have been completed prior to starting this program, as the State of Ohio does not require this until the end of the PGY-2 year. You do NOT need a full medical license to apply for this fellowship, but you will need to be eligible for a "Training Certificate" (i.e. you must have completed your PGY-1 year of training) in order to do this fellowship.
