This may be common knowledge for most of you, but this is a short little article that provides guidance on what you can legally do when your patient is getting prescriptions from other providers in addition to you. I found it to be a very useful summary.

I personally love the prescription monitoring programs. They document all substances filled by that patient. We should advocate strongly for a national system.
 
Too bad the article is inaccurate.

The Doctor Shopping Law itself is found in O.C.G.A. 16-13-43. More specifically, O.C.G.A 16-13-43(a)(6) provides that it is unlawful:

To withhold information from a practitioner that such person has obtained a controlled substance of a similar therapeutic use in a concurrent time period from another practitioner.
