1) is submitting secondaries around end of September considered death sentence even with very high stats?

2) For shadowing, do I have to do general dentist? If I did shadowing in another specialty like pediatric dentist, is it ok?

Thanks!

1. Pretty close to it. In hindsight I wouldn't feel comfortable submitting anytime later than early August.

2. Depends on the school, I think some require a certain number of shadowing hours be completed with a general dentist. For example, Minnesota requires 50 hrs in general dentistry while Iowa didn't have a hour minimum hour requirement let alone specification of shadowing environment.

1. No
2. Schools require you to have certain hours by General. After that, you do you.

So it has to be general dentist then? Cause I'm doing pediatric dentist right now

Whatever the school lists as its shadowing requirement, assume it's for general dentistry. Some schools are vague in their wording on their websites, or have different requirements, but many of them say they want general dentistry shadowing hours.

It only makes sense, since you're going to dental school to learn how to be a general dentist. You can call schools you plan to apply to and ask as well. That would give you the best answer.

1) No
2) Check each school's website for requirements. Some specifically request shadowing a general dentist rather than a specialist.
