Does anyone know how competitive Nephrology Fellowships seem to be these days? I am asking because I am thinking about applying to a well-known, non-university IM program. They say that their residents have done well in getting fellowships, esp in Cardiology (no mention of Nephrology). I am just a little hesistant to go to an IM program that does not have its own Fellowship programs. Is it that much harder to match if you are having to find a position when you were not a Resident in that Fellowships IM program?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Nephrology is a middle-tier fellowship in terms of competitiveness. Nowhere near Cardio, GI, or Allergy. In general, it is harder to find a position at a position that's not where you trained for residency, but certainly not impossible
