I dunno whether i am crazy or not. I cannot stop thinking about field of physiatry going to change the world of spine care in next few years. I am not sure whether this has anything to do with Dr. Joel Press becoming the president of NASS. I have an errie feeling about physiatry going to change the world of spine and musculoskeletal care just like how internet changed the world communication. May be i am overthinking and overshooting. This is just my personal humble opinion and cannot resist posting in the forums.
My sincere apologies if this post offends anyone.

This is exactly what critics said when Bill Gates pronounced 20 years ago that microsoft is going to rule the world & Bono promised about cancelling the third world debt relief project 5 years ago. Whatever... Albert Schweizer came in my dream last night and he thinks physiatry is gonna rule the medical world. :D

SS,

I believe that minimally invasive endoscopic procedures will be the future of spine surgery. Currently there is no board accreditation for these types of procedures. This being the case, I am hoping that pain interventionalists and interventional spine specialists will have the priveledge/opportunity to learn these types of procedures. I highly encourage anyone interested in advancing the practice of interventional spine to check out this website www.microspine.com . I believe this could begin the paradigm shift toward more minimally invasive procedures. However, it would be very unfortunate if neurosurgeons and orthopaedists were the only physicians allowed to perform these procedures. There is the consideration that it is still surgery regardless if it is less invasive. That being said surgeons may be the only practitioners allowed to get in on this. Hopefully, physicians like algos and other members of the ASIS will strive to develop avenues and relationships for this new evolution in minimally invasive spine care. If interventional cardiologist can stick stents into coronary arteries then interventional spine specialists should be allowed the opportunity to do this sort of minimally invasive spine surgery thumbup:

I think it already has. We're just terrible at marketing ourselves. I never really realized this until I completed Spine, EMG, Sports/MSK and interventional rotations, then rotated through other departments. That's when you really take notice of all the crap referrals going around followed by missed or incorrect diagnoses.

Besides, Musculoskeletal Physiatry is what 10-15yrs old? Now that the majority of PM&R residents are going into it (by a large margin), give it another 10 yrs and there will be a whole army of us.
