gaining more dental experience/ internship

Hello,
I am curious about gaining more dental exposure for another year [if i have to... which may be likely, but all good]. See, i have shadowed my uncle who is a GP and have done some clerical admin stuff. Now I want to look for something possibly in dental research... does anyone know if this is possible for any predent student? and if so, does anyone know of any available opps or suggest a dentist in Sacramento, CA? I was thinking of phoning UCSF but if i could find something in my hometown, that would be great.
