Can someone explain to me why you get nocturnal cough and asthma with GERD? I have it memorized cold but it'd be nice to know the mechanism too.

Acid gets in your bronchopulm tree and cough receptors get activated to cough it out.

Not sure about the asthma, could be that the bronchioles constrict to prevent additional acid from going too deep into the pulmonary system.

Thanks, and I suppose it's easier to aspirate the acid when you're laying down? Thus the nocturnal part? Makes sense now :) Yeah I dunno about the asthma.
