Hello everyone. I'm a new user here.
I would really appreciate your help with ranking Psychiatry programs.
I'm an IMG, with my fiance in Illinois doing MBA for the next one year and then uncertain of where he will get a job after that. I have interviewed at 11 places and am planning on ranking according to my gut feeling/ proximity to fiance and probability of him getting a job in the area/ how comfortable I will be in the city.
Here's my list:

1. Drexel Uni/Hahnemann hospital in Philadelphia, PA
2. Virginia Commonwealth Uni in Richmond, VA
3. Case Western's Metrohealth Program in Cleveland, OH
4. Southern Illinois Uni in Springfield, IL
5. Mayo hospital in Rochester, MN
6. SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, NY
7. NYMC at Westchester, NY
8. Maimonides hospital in Brooklyn, NY
9. Hersheys/Penn State University in Hersheys, PA
10. St. Elizabeth Med Center in Boston, MA
11. Uni of Toledo in Toledo, OH

I'm very sure of my #1 choice. But very confused about # 2 and 3.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance :)

Well with those criteria, how could we possibly help you? If you share more about what you're looking for and what you do and don't like about these places, I imagine you'd get more useful responses.

I'm just asking for other people's opinions about the programs...

What causes you to place #3 so high, and #5 and #6 so low? These would definitely be near the top of my list.

I have a lot of friends in Cleveland, and it is in closer proximity to Illinois than #5 and 6 is. I also really liked the new PD, Dr. Tampi - he has super high hopes and aspirations for the program.
The thing with Mayo is, it's in the middle of nowhere and I need a diverse group of people around me since I'm an IMG and can't really socialise with AMGs so comfortably... same with Syracuse. They both are not in good proximity to big airports, from where I'll have to travel to my home country. I'm still confused if these factors are strong enough to not wanna be there :S

I am of the opinion that the only reason to live in Illinois is because you're from Illinois and you don't know any better. (Sheesh. That was harsh. I don't mean to be that harsh. Chicago is a great town. I do really like Chicago). Springfield is okay, I guess. I don't really know much about the program.

Philly's a great town. Don't know much about the program either, but I like Philly.

Sheesh. So not helpful. (Me. I am not being helpful). Good luck wherever you end up. And if you do want to stay in IL, my current gig is hiring and probably still will be in 4 years. Not a bad gig.

FWIW--by that criterion, Syracuse and Springfield are a bit more "middle of nowhere" than Rochester, which is just over an hour from the MSP airport.

I'm not sure what the airport situation is in Springfield proper, but there are decent airports in Champaign-Urbana and in Bloomington. I mean, you probably won't fly anywhere directly. But you'll get there.

I was going more on proximity of airports with direct international flights. Would that be STL for Springfield?
