Hey there! I'm currently trying to figure out a school roster for this cycle and figured I should probably jump on here for a bit of advice.

  1. 3.74 cGPA with 3.6 sGPA (upward trend on the sGPA)
  2. 507 (126/126/127/128)
  3. IN resident
  4. White
  5. Small private college
  6. Clinical work: After graduating in spring 2019, I started medical scribing full-time in the summer of 2019 (family practice at first, then was switched to ED; 2500+ hrs overall)
  7. Research: Independent research project during senior year of college researching/using CRISPR; recently hired as a clinical research assistant for a study with my state school's medical school (will involve data entry/interpretation as well as significant patient interaction with participants).
  8. Shadowing: ~17 or so shadowing hours (infectious disease specialist, family dentist, and veterinarian) prior to starting scribing.
  9. Non-clinical volunteering: Teacher's assistant at local elementary school (d/t family connections); assisting college students with teaching science classes to elementary students weekly during undergrad; choreographing and teaching said choreography to high-school students in a few local musical theatre productions during my final years of undergrad.
  10. Other extracurricular activities: I was a double major in biology as well as dance during undergrad, resulting in me being a large part of the dance dept. and the performances they put on. Our dept. was recently well-known in the dance world, therefore I had a lot of chances to meet with amazingly talented artists and become a part of their work. Also, I was a teacher's assistant for multiple upperclassman classes during the final 3 yrs of undergrad; I also tutored for a freshman-level biology class during my 2nd year. After my freshman year, I went on a medical mission trip with multiple healthcare providers to Nicaragua to provide medical care to some underserved/rural villages.
  11. Relevant honors or awards: Member (and president during my senior year) of my university's chapter of Sigma Zeta National Science and Mathematics Honor Society; multiple merit and financial-based scholarships during undergrad.
  12. Other info: LizzyM score of 67.5, ARS score of 75
So to give a bit more backstory, I applied last cycle, but was pretty late in turning in my application due to Covid as well as letter of eval issues. I think I actually submitted it around Aug/Sept. I only applied to a handful of MD schools and took a while to finish the secondaries as I didn't realize how important it was to get them in ASAP... haha. I had a really great interview with my top choice school in January, but was ultimately rejected at the very end of the cycle.

I really want to try my best this year, and I'm planning on submitting my application tomorrow as soon as I can once it opens up. I really think that I've improved what I can this year regarding my application as I've gotten more experience scribing and am excited to start my new research position next month. I have a pretty strong personal statement as well, and I think that my application is very well-rounded. Also, I understand the cycle much better this time around!

Regarding schools, I'm planning to apply to ~15 to start out with... maybe more if I need to. I'm trying to stay mainly in the midwest/east coast region as well. Overall, I'd really love some help narrowing down my options as this is the hardest part for me. I didn't get much interest from schools on the interview side of things last cycle, so I'm a bit hesitant to reapply to them again because it feels like a bit of a lost cause, but I really do think that my late application is ultimately what screwed me last cycle, so I'm trying to think positively. These are the schools I'm looking at right now:

MD:
Case Western
University of Maryland
Boston University
Ohio State
University of Wisconsin
Brown University
Indiana University
University of Cincinnati
Dartmouth
University of Massachusetts
University of Nebraska
Georgetown University
Tufts University
George Washington University
Rush University
University of Vermont
University of Toledo
Southern Illinois University
Rosalind Franklin University
Loyola University Central Michigan University
Western Michigan University

DO: (sticking with all these 3 for sure)
Midwestern University (Chicago)
Marian University
Michigan State University

Thanks in advance!! <3

You have several state public schools on your list that admit few non residents with no connection to the state. For example, Southern Illinois admitted zero non residents last year. You also have schools that accept few applicants with a MCAT of 507. I suggest these schools with your stats:
Indiana
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
Rush
Medical College Wisconsin
Western Michigan
Oakland Beaumont
Wayne State
Toledo
St. Louis
Creighton
TCU-UNT
NOVA MD
Wake Forest
Virginia Commonwealth
Eastern Virginia
Georgetown
George Washington
Penn State
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Seton Hall
New York Medical College
Albany
Vermont
Quinnipiac
For DO schools can you afford the non resident tuition for MSUCOM ? You could add these schools:
DMU-COM
ATSU-KCOM
KCU-COM
PCOM
LECOM (all schools)
UNECOM
WVSOM
UP-KYCOM
