I can't believe it. I took the MCAT in may and got a 29. I felt like I could've done better, I was sleep deprived and had test anxiety, plus my average practice score was around 33. I sign up for the July MCAT, took an aamc 2 days before and got a 37. I was confident I would at least score a 32. Running on 3 hours of sleep and fasting on the day of the exam, I still felt like I broke 30 after taking it. And alas, I got a 29 again damn it. I can't even describe how infuriated I am. Can I really blame lack of sleep and anxiety? Should I take it a 3rd time?

Yes of course. An adequate amount of sleep is essential in doing well on any test, let alone the MCAT. Try writing a few practice passages late at night/lacking sleep and some on a good night's rest. You'd be amazed at what a difference it can make.

Even simply focusing vs not focusing would make a huge difference. For example, doing passages halfhazardly will usually get me -2 to -4 wrong on a passage. If I was focused, I could minimize it from 0 to -2. Now add in sleep deprived and stuff. Even at AAMC 9 where I was super sleepy during PS, I spent 20 minutes on 2 passages...that weren't difficult at all. I was just too sleepy to move fast enough.
