For those of you who have interviewed, how specific can you be when discussing patients in regards to HIPPA? Like most pre-meds, I have work and volunteer experiences with patients and am wondering if you get interview questions about significant experiences that you have had with patients. Is it ok to talk very vaguely about patients? How do you go about discussing patients?

Do not use any identifying information - it's that simple. It's perfectly appropriate to mention vignettes ("once I spoke with a patient that..."). Just don't use names or, to be on the safe side, the particular hospital or any other unique information.
