IOM report

So, the IOM released a report today about the current state of Emergency Medicine, and, specifically, the overcrowding and coverage issues. It further stated that the EMS system in our country is in a state of crisis, and incapable of managing major disasters with the current overcrowding situation. While this will come as no surprise for most of us, anybody want to comment on what this means for our future?

They also stated that critical care fellowships should be made available to EM guys and be able to get boarded to relieve the huge crisis of shortage of intensivists that's only worsening.

They site that it would be the optimal continuum from EMS to ED to ICU. The best care possible.

heck if the IOM speak people listen. maybe this will fix the critical care problem.

I agree with the IOM's influence with patient errors - it'd be GREAT if they had that kind of power in this situation.
