If the patient has something green on the blood smear they have bigger problems than their Hematologist being colorblind.
This might sound bad but I’d sign off on a fellow graduating as long as they can recognize a blast and a schistocyte.
Now I’m sure every program has that one attending where you’ll have to sit there and smile/nod “oh yes mmhmm the rare megaerythrofruitloopocyte, how interesting” but NOT being colorblind never helped me in that situation anyway.
Edit: while we’re on the subject, has anyone ever looked into whether reviewing the smear would qualify as “independent interpretation of a test performed by another physician/other qualified healthcare professional”?
