This is a dumb question, but the last step of glycolysis is referred to as 'non oxidative'. What does this mean? The central carbon oxidation state does change from +1 to +2, so isn't oxidation occurring?



Ah wait I guess you have to consider net oxidation, so all carbons combined then? So then the other carbon is reduced, meaning no net oxidation.


So an 'oxidative" step is just one in which redox occurs?
