MS2 wondering .. what does an unmatched AMG in need of visa do?

I think you're mostly worried about nothing.
First of all, if you have a link to the visa change, I'd love to see the actual announcement to see what it's all about.
As a US Grad, you'll have OPT for your first year. I expect someone will be willing to give you an H for the rest. Or, you'll have two years where you can apply for the J, so you'll have twice as many chances as everyone else -- and presumably the second year you can apply very early since you'll know where you are going.
So I don't think you have much to worry about.
