If you want to be a doctor, everything out there on Internet-land needs to exude professionalism. So you don't want Facebook pictures of you smashed and acting stupid, and you similarly probably don't want pictures out there of you in your underwear. What doesn't seem like that big a deal when you are twenty might be a much bigger deal when potential employers or patients are googling you at 28.

I was a nude art model from age 18-25. I avoided photography, except for one shoot with Annie Leibovitz for Vanity Fair celebrating the Whitney Museum. It seemed classy as all get out, idk.

Anyway, I didn't use the word "nude" when I listed it under my past jobs in my AMCAS app, but "art model" implies it and it IS in my resume. Didn't stop me from getting several dream acceptances.

I figure if med schools don't care, then nobody much will. If I were you, I'd just ask that, for publication, if you're named as the model, they use an initial for your first name, or use your middle name. Keeps things less Google-able.

I'd love to think my writing somehow screams "hot girl" in a way that would make that quest worthwhile.

Actually I'm just vaguely green and leaf-shaped.

This is actually really illustrative of how little this stuff matters. *I* can't even find the shoot at this point.

Porn's the biggest industry in America. A nice round tush in tasteful chiaroscuro won't kill anyone.

I'm no admission officer, but I'd be proud to work hard at something and accomplished it like you have. Winning a physique competition no easy task and you should definitely let someone know the amount of sweat, time, and dieting it took. It's a huge positive in my book.

Ok people,I have been reading and this is my opinion. I am Cuban ok. Those photos un facebook do not affect his professionalism. Being a doctor is about saving people's life not looking good or grown up.

Professionalism is subjectively evaluated by others. Being a doctor is certainly partly about treating patients but being and acting professionally, both in and out of the hospital, is part and parcel of this career. So you can be an amazing physician technically, but if people Google you and see all sorts of unbecoming things, you probably won't last long in a professional career. I will leave it to others to decide what is "unbecoming", but just bear in mind it's frequently someone more conservative and older who will judge.

Also I am not exactly sure why stating you are Cuban was relevant to your post.

I don't think they would frown upon that. The nude, maybe, but not physique.

I am a bodybuilder, and not to sound conceded, but a lot of dedication, time, effort, and dieting goes into it. Same with physique. I just hope they realize how much hard work goes into it! I kind of feel goofy mentioning it at job interviews because I feel like most people don't understand.

Good luck.

Dr Steal yo girl, <--- beautiful, by the way.

In your mission to spread health and life itself -- <--- f'n fantastic by the way. Don't change a thing Steal yo girl-- The best thing that you can do is look good naked. <--- I'm actually quite serious. The absence of a physical culture in the lives of those who are supposed to shepherd other people's health is patently ridiculous. Doctor's should look pretty good naked, relatively speaking. Not necessarily Zoolander good like yourself Steal yo girl, but at least f'able for their age group.

So. Carry on. Don't change for nobody. Keep stealin girls. And definitely use as many "yo's" in the place of your's as humanly possible. And the like. A lot of people underestimate the positive health benefits of fearing the loss of they girl. (I'm following yo lead steal yo girl. I'm f'n with pronouns. Gangster up.) Especially when the threat comes from their doctor.

You're radically pushing the envelope. As a premed. F'n A man. Balls for days. How do you fit those nuts in a banana hanger.

You have me turning red, hysterically laughing in the middle of the library.

Stage pictures are fine. It's the instagram model selfies that I can see coming into question.

Nasrudin - so good to see you're still posting in here. I remember you from way back when.

Anyhoo, GL to all the dieters in here. :)

Hey Guys,

I am a very fit male; I've taken first place in a men's physique competition before. I have a photographer who is bringing me in for a casting call soon. The shoots i will do will likely be involved to sell underwear. He does do other shoots may request nudity. I am not sure what kinds of clients I will be working with through this agency. While I have clearly stated I am against nude photography (and obviously pornography); If it is a cool shot that I feel that I like (ie: sports illustrated athletes' bodies edition), I may allow it to make it on the internet.

This brings us to my question: can this type of behavior be detriment to my acceptance / career as a physician? Obviously my patients are going to be like MAN! Dr. Neurogeec is smokin hot! But do you really think that there would be a lack of credibility associated with having been an underwear model if I am great at my job?

The purpose of my life and career is spreading health, wellness, and the promotion of life it's self. Couldn't it be argued that it is ethically wrong for me to share my healthy body with the world? Gosh, I mean a naked picture of my butt and muscular back couldn't be THAT terrible, could it? I do realize this may affect patient views, admission committee views, and anyone who may have a thread of scrutiny about them.

For this reason, I am curious about what you may be thinking. Medicine is a huge part of my life, however, I do not feel that it is right to bar myself from being myself, for the sake of fitting the mold so many people sacrifice themselves to squeeze into.

Consider who makes up admissions committees: Often older more conservative physicians (more older men than women) and senior med school staff. The fact that you have to ask here says it's likely not a socially conservative move. Like it or not it can have an impact on how people view your professionalism and will potentially hurt you in med schools in more rural/less major urban center areas if what you do is too revealing. I could care less personally but others might think you're too unprofessional.

People will google your name (they seriously do that!) and you don't want the first image of you to suggest Todd from Scrubs.

A supervisor where I used to work had a good statement. Do you want to be _______ or ________. If you want to be the first then focus heavily on the first and little on the second and don't ever let the second potentially interfere with the first.

So is doing it worth potentially not getting into med school?
