Hi,

Here are my stats:

NJ Resident

uGPA: 3.4 (last 3 semesters 3.5-4.0 strong upward trend, just horrible first semester), sGPA: 3.4
MCAT: 514

1st gen. immigrant, 1st gen. college student.

4 first author publications (IF>4), 2 second author, 2 middle. Several presentations at national and state conferences.

Funding: NIH fellowship, NSF iCORPS fellowship, Brain Injury fellowship, and other small grants and fellowships that all together add up to approx. $215k.

Excellent LORs.

ECs:
- Tutoring experience
- Certificate in business & management
- Many significant leadership positions
- Shadowing 3 doctors (2 neurosurgeons, and a radiologist) with 30h so far but still going
- Hospital volunteering (50h so far)
- Community service (150h so far)
- Amateur athlete with a national title

I'm looking to apply next cycle. Based on my stats what schools would you recommend?

Do you want to stay on East Coast? Is location a big factor?

Yes, have to consider family.

MD

A quick glance at MSAR and you seem competitive for these schools around NJ. Your GPA is borderline for a lot of MD schools, but I would guess your strong MCAT and Research credentials will help make up for that.
  • Cooper
  • Rutgers
  • Drexel
  • Commonwealth Medical College
  • Virginia Tech
  • Albany Medical College
  • New York Medical College

DO

You are competitive for all DO schools IMO. These ones seem to have a pretty good rep according others I have talked with.
  • Rowan
  • PCOM
  • CUSOM
I'm a west coast guy, but I have been looking at East Coast schools recently. Let's see if some more knowledgeable people have better suggestions, if not this is at least a start.....

Thanks!

My list so far was:
RWJMS
NJMS
Cooper
Drexel
Penn State
SUNY-Downstate
SUNY-Albany
NYMC
Rochester
BU

Rowan
PCOM

Hail Mary: Columbia, Yale, Pritzker (I have a good story so you never know...)

I recommend:

U VM
Duke (maybe)
Case (maybe)
Duke (maybe)
Miami
Albany
Albert Einstein
Rochester
BU
Hofstra
NYMC
VCU
EVMS
Wake Forest
Jefferson
Temple
Drexel
George Washington
Emory
Dartmouth
Your state schools
Uniformed Services University/Hebert (just be aware of the military service commitment)

Any DO program. I can't recommend Touro-NY, LUCOM or Wm Carey, for different reasons. Start your list with NYITCOM, PCOM, LECOM, VCOM and UNECOM.
