Ponce is a US medical school. Details are in Admissions Requirements U S Medical Schools, an AAMC publication. A knowledge of Spanish is a must. Most premedical offices have a copy.

The University of Puerto Rico is also a US med school. Most, if not all, students are island, not Mainland residents. Again, see Admission Require. U S Med Schools.

Universidad Central del Caribe is also an LCME accredited, AAMC member U.S. school, bringing the total to 3 U.S. schools in PR. The comments made earlier on Ponce-SOM also apply for UCC-SOM

I believe there's actually one foreign med school on Puerto Rico, in addition to Caribe, Ponce, and the University of Puerto Rico.

Anyone know its name?

Tim of New York City.

Turtle, none of the schools in Puerto Rico are foreing medical school bcz PR is part of the United States. There is one more medical school San Juan Bautista School of Medicine but this school is not acredited by the LCME. They are seeking accreditation but still without it they can practice as general practitioners in the US.

Im actually a student at the San Juan Bautista School of Medicine and although its not accredited by the LCME you can take the USMLE after you graduate and if you pass them you can actually do your rotation in the USA (that's what im gonna do). Of the PR med School the Ponce one has the highest % of american (USA students)in there classes.

siulrc,

If a school isn't LCME-accredited, not AOA-accredited (I assume), yet somehow can have its students take the boards and rotate in American hospitals doesn't qualify as foreign, then how would you categorize San Juan Bautista School of Medicine?

Tim of New York City.

turtle, san juan bautista is just a american school that is just not accreditated that's it. there is nothing more to read into. It is not a foreing medical school bcz theie students does not have to take the EMCFG they just take the uslme or the puerti rican state board. after that they just practice as GP's.
